Neck Mod for String Popping???

Scalloped fingerboards? Plenty of times. This particular mod? No. But it comes to the same thing. It’s just scalloping the end of the fingerboard.

The tool of choice is a router with a round (radius) cutter. If you’re careful you can do it freehand or on a router table. Personally, I use a router jig that controls the base of the router. The neck is first removed and fitted to the jig so that the centerline of the neck is perpendicular to the fences. The cutter is dialed down to the desired depth and cutting begins. It is recommended to do this in three or four passes. Sand, seal, and finish after cutting to depth. Just understand that it can make refretting a bit more challenging.

It’s an odds on guess that this was never requested because player’s adapt their technique to the instrument. If someone needs more room it is likely they have not refined their technique. Many people who use ramps have no problem popping with two fingers. That is the equivalent of popping over a pickup or the end of the neck.
