I have the AFB 200 hollow body and I thought it was too thumpy until we recorded a rehearsal. That thump was dead on with the mix of acoustic guitars in the band unless I played with a pick. Then there was a metallic buzz. I'm thinking of tape wounds for the next strings for picking
Do you have the one with a floating bridge and trapeze tailpiece? If so, then the buzz might be "wolf tones" - the strings behind the bridge are vibrating hard enough to hear. Big bodied basses like this suffer this problem, as do guitars. Especially Gretsches; my Broadkaster has this problem bad. Before you do something drastic, try weaving something like a piece of foam, or felt, between the strings behind the bridge and see if the problem goes away. I solved the problem on my Broadkaster by putting a thin piece of closed-cell foam underneath the tailpiece, right at the back where it's hinged to fit the body. Cured the wolf tones for me, anyway...
