New Origin Effects DCX Bass

Just to stem potential disappointment before people get carried away, I'll highlight the "If we were to make a big-boy-clean-DI-preamp, we'd want to focus on it being the best version of that."

It's fun to see what people like, but I don't want people thinking I'm hinting at it being an imminent release or something to expect. More just saying, we think about all sorts of stuff and here are some things we consider in our designs.

Thanks for clarification and dropping info in the thread from time to time.

My second DCX Bass has arrived.
Serial numbers are only one apart.

Question - at times do you run both simultaneously? Or choose one, depending on the song.
I just got this second DCX but it will be always on in EQ mode set on the edge of breakup. It’s mostly clean but if I dig in a bit I get some hair. The second DCX is in OD mode for when I want a good overdriven sound. If I turn them both on it sounds like I only have the one in OD mode on. It just overpowers the other. I am loving have both EQ and OD available at the touch of a button. Expensive but very worth it.

Rats. I really didn't need to hear this... I may need to order a 2nd.

hmmmm. track 1 was removed?
I updated the links in my original post but it was quoted once before I changed them. @_Tay_ was too quick lol. They should be good in my original post just not his reply.

Just in case

1 has a smoother drive to me, but a looser bottom end.
2 has a lot of high end fizz.

I’m guessing 1 is DCX

@_Tay_ and @Parzival

#1 is the Walrus Ages (mode 2) and #2 is the DCX

I should have stated both drives were set to noon overall with bass boosted in both.

The DCX definitely has more high end buzz/breakup like you said. But the walrus starts getting a little buzzy at higher gain while the DCX stays perfectly quiet. I think the DCX also retains a wider range of low end. You can boost bass in the Ages but it’s a much smaller Q.

In a moment of craziness I did put my DCX on sale a few days ago. I thought to myself that I didn’t really need it now that my main preamp is a Tech21 VTDI. How silly of me?!

I took some time tonight to actually try them together, and with the DCX in Drive mode as an added overdrive, it sounded amazing. And I realised I would regret selling the DCX. It is regarded as an outstanding pedal here on TB, and I used to praise it too.

So I took it off Reverb and it’s back on my pedalboard.

Pbass > Cali76 Bass compressor > DCX Bass > VT Bass DI = amazing rock tone.
