"Official" Carvin and Kiesel Club - Part 3

Well, I've had a couple of Carvins pass through the house, and I loved them both, but they were not keepers for various reasons. I think this one will be, so I'm submitting her for my number! It's a LB75F I found used that is a great player. Emerald green over quilted maple, no-show neck-through construction (see photo of the back,) black hardware, unlined fretless, ebony fretboard. It's got a serial number in the 91XXX range, so I'm guessing it is roughly 5 years old or so. Anyone have an idea? Anyway, to the pix...

It is at least 7 or 8 years old because of the pre-amp and the bridge which was used until the Icon came out somewhere in 2006. also we can see the neck on the front.

You know, "in person" I did not notice the neck before, and thought it was a no-show with a full-top quilt... the guy I got this from did not have the build sheet. But in the bright sunlight I photographed the bass in today it is obvious that it can be seen from the front. Thanks for the correction, and the info on age.

What I do know is that it is a mighty smooth-playing (and -sounding) bass!

Not to skip over the bass in question (always have liked that blackburst on blue finish), but is that an MB10 on top of the Avatar? How do you like it by itself? Ever try it with a 5'er?

5sg.

Yesirree it's an MB10 on an the Avatar SB112! I love it, perfect rehearsal/small gig rig. GREAT sound. I don't play a 5-string though, sorry. By itself the MB10 really cranks, especially when making good use of the amazing EQ section. I unplugged the Avatar and jammed a song with my rock back and everybody could hear it, but I had to cut some lows and boost low mids so it wouldn't get messy.

:bassist:

Hey guys, I posted in wanted under the classifieds, but thought I'd mention here, too, since this is a Carvin friendly zone. I'm looking for a used LB70 with the original J99 pickups (black dot in front of the logo on the pickup cover) and preferably the older 5 knob preamp set up. Lemme' know if you have one you'd be willing to part with. :)

(I've been looking for a while. I might get impatient pretty soon and order a new one with the old pickups installed, since Carvin still has them in stock...)

I bought my Spalted Maple XB75 from the "Guitars In Stock" section of the Carvin website. You may recognize it as it is in the pictures rotation on the XB75 page. It plays and sounds as good as it looks. I have a B50 unlined fretless in the works right now, it will feature a claro walnut top and headstock laminate on an ash body. Ebony fretboard on maple neck, J pickups, active electronics with sweepable mids and balance control. Matte satin finish, straplocks, and a TUSQ nut. Due mid-September.
