Ok, my search-fu went up a little. Try this link. You should be able to make this work with the bridge.
Thanks. I'll give it a shotOk, my search-fu went up a little. Try this link. You should be able to make this work with the bridge.
I actually started messing around with something similar last night. I think this might be the best strategy given the thickness of the bridge. I think the bondo would work for a thicker item like a pickup or neck but the bridge doesn't have high enough walls. I'd be back to leveling with a file which is where I botch the job.Lay your target object on the sheet of MDF of whatever you're making your template from, then temporarily stick down four straight scraps of plywood or MDF around it using double sided tape or hot glue or what have you. Remove the object, and now you have a recess that you can use to route an opening of exactly the right size in your template. This method works for objects that are not very thick and/or don't have sides that are 90 degrees to the base.
If you do it often enough, you can even make a jig.

No need to apologize at all. The link you sent is extremely helpful for another project I have going, I just didn't want to reveal how many incompleted projects I have going at the moment, lol. I appreciate any and all feedback and guidance!Sorry Tom0, I’ve used what Max just posted any number of times for pickups. I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me to mention it for your bridge.
Finally made progress on the wrong bass. I routed the bridge and it worked pretty well. It’s a little wide on the sides but minimally so I think it’ll work!

Here’s my next issue, the body is curved (it’s an SX streamer knock off). Any suggestions on how to get the template onto the body and keep the template level and stable?
One thin I’ll probably need to do is cut/trim the template relatively uniform on the sides. It leans on the curve to one side since the piece I used was an odd shape. Any suggestions are welcome!

Ah that makes so much sense! I was trying to figure out how to get shims in place and level with double sided tape and then double sided taping the template to that. Way harder, haha. Thanks, Bruce!First, use some double-sided tape to stick the template down in the center, in the right position and alignment. Then stack up some wooden shims and wedges underneath either side of the template to fill the gaps. Clamps at both edges.
