Peavey T-40 on Facebook Market Place

I used to have a sweet Sunburst T-40 with OHSC. The only reason I sold it was because of the weight. Don't get me wrong. It wasn't too much to bear, or anything like that. I just figured, "When I have other sweet-sounding basses that weigh much less, this one is expendable". Cool basses though, for sure!

...and the sunbursts were a bit rarer than most

Fantastic bass.

My only gripe is that mine has ridiculously high action without doing the neck tilt and it doesn't have a contour for right forearm. Other than that I've done the 'red wire Chip Todd' hack and haven't looked back. A decent P, J and MM with the flick of a switch. The Ric tone was okay but single coil a little too thin. That's why the Chip Todd hack is brilliant.

Just like my other investments....I sold too early. Bought mine in 1982 for about $350... Sold it a few years (5+???) For $350. With ohsc.
I guess they do go higher, but with patience and luck they can still be had for under $400. I'd grab the nice white one I saw yesterday online for just over $350 if I wasn't committed to another current buy.

Nothing special about it except

The seller wants £1200 :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao: $1600US :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:
An identical one in Aberdeen sold for £300 two weeks back. Funny this one is also in Aberdeen.

Made me laugh when I saw it :)

I’m keeping my Mississippi Queen until I can’t pick her up anymore. It’s actually on the light end of the spectrum, 10.6 lbs. The pickups are HOT, and flatwounds tone it down just about right for me. The neck is fast, action low. It’s fun to fidget with the knobs, but my ears like 6 on both volumes, 6/4 neck/bridge tone. I get the tone imitation thing, but I think it has its own voice. Other than the toggle selector switches (I think they were beefed up in later years), everything else feels like it was built to come out the other end of the apocalypse. I don’t think they will ever be Ric/P bass money, but for what I paid, I saved enough for several chiropractor appointments. A $100-200 either direction shouldn’t be a major factor because unless it was used to club people to death in battle, it’s a quality purchase.

We all harp about weight a bit, but I’ll take a well balanced heavy bass over a light neck-diver any day. Plus the self defense bludgeon feature is always an option! My L2k is heavier than the average Fender P, but it’s well balanced, so it doesn’t bother me. People get intimidated by “all those knobs and switches”, same with the L2k, but in practice you find a couple settings you like and leave it, but it’s nice to have all that control without amp fiddling.

I wouldn’t disparage anyone with chronic back/neck issues, or smaller bodied players. The weight thing is more critical to some of us than others. For some, a 7lb bass is the difference between being able to enjoy playing a gig, or having to sit in the corner and feel bad. My heart goes out to those folks.

On the other side, forums send a lot of us down a slippery slope where we decide we need every silly gadget that comes along. How did we ever live without $1,000 power cords?! A well balanced, 10lb bass is a piece of cake to play the whole night, assuming one is relatively fit and healthy. I’m 55 and reasonably fit/healthy. I’d prefer not to take my old (exceptionally heavy) T-40 to a 4 hour gig, but have no problems with a 10lb P bass, if it’s the right bass for the gig.

I guess I’m just trying to say overthinking on forums tends to lead us to solutions searching for problems.

Average weight T-40 is 10 to 12.5lbs. Average weight of 3 month old baby 13 - 15.2lbs, and they don't start walking for roughly another 12 month.

If the good ladies from momsnet.org ever spotted the TB posts going " I can't play a bass over 8lb " it'd be open season for bass players

I bought one new back in1978 on the advise of a friend. He told me to never sell it, which I didn't but pawned it and it was sold when I went to pick it up. I admit I was lazy and should have gotten it before it was sold. I really miss it and that unique sound.funny thing I sold my 2004 Musicman Sub and wish I would have kept it also. Maybe I should quit buying bassses for other players to get cheap.

Ha, good point :)
To be fair, my T-40 was over 13lbs...that was a bit much

I’d advise anyone with shoulder or back problems to get an Ibanez SR Series, similar sophisticated EQ section in the higher end models, very light weight, very well balanced. Nothing tires me quicker than a neck diving bass I have to clamp in place with my elbow or hold up with my fretting hand. The weight alone isn’t the most important factor IME, it’s how the bass hangs and plays.

Yeah, that's kind of extreme. It has to be a very special T (with the pickguard sticker and bass/OHSC in like-new condition, early T in good condition with the TRC pinstripe, etc.) before I consider even half that price.
