PHIL JONES BASS COMPACT PLUS DELIVERS MORE BASS/LESS WEIGHT

The GR Bass 800W combo is much lighter (9.5 kg) and more powerful (800 W)
I would like to hear a comparison of them though (in person, of course). There's something about PJB preamps that really aren't matched by others that I've tried. I prefer the PJB preamp to the AI preamp in my Clarus for my upright, for example. It's a shame, though, that PJB gear doesn't have a sweepable HPF like others do.

Both C4s? How have you not blown your combo amp from the 4Ohm load?

This is my setup for the loudest of gigs. Haven't blown anything.

I see, so you're just taking the line out from one BG-400 and putting it into another BG-400. Gotcha.
Actually, I am using a Boss Line Selector Pedal and running into both amps. As I mentioned before just one BG400 and C4 is enough for most of my gigs. But once in a rare while, I may need to double it up if there is no FOH support or if the band is crazy loud.

They're very uncolored, I would say moreso than AI amps even. Also, very good signal-to-noise ratio.
One could say they’re sterile-sounding if you compare PJB stuff to other amps like Fender, Ampeg, or Mesa. This is not a bad thing though! If you want an amp that will let the sound of your bass shine through, PJB is the way to go. And the five band EQ works really well - I especially love that the low end has two separate bands to work with!

... I'm curious as to what the differences are between the BG-400 and the BG-450 are to cut 10lbs off the weight (BG-400 is 41 lbs... but worth it for the 2 inputs + 2 channels IMO)

I talked to the guys at PJB a couple weeks ago and the only difference is that the 450 has a 1 ch pre amp instead of 2 and they made it smaller and lighter.

I just bought one as my new upright bass amp to replace my old as dirt GK MB150.

This could be a good solution for me. I've been thinking about updating my rig, (GK MB800 + 2X Accugroove Tri110). I want good tone and power in a small package. I don't necessarily want to play loud (in fact, I really don't to play loud anymore at all), so any band that would require a large rig would be out of the question anyway.

I've been able to find a couple of video reviews on the BG-400, but I'd really like to see something on the BG-450.
