Question about Active Eq

My Wal started distorting when the battery ran low and my Lakland started to make a swishing noise.

I always carry several batteries in the gig bag. I'll use them for the tuner.

Also remember to carry a small screwdriver if your bass doesn't have a dedicated battery compartment (my Lakland doesn't). You'll need to remove the cover to get at the battery.

Just bought my first Active Eq bass. Ibanez SR500. I figure the more you use the battery the more you will use. I figure it's a good idea to keep a spare. My question is what are the signs i should look for when a battery is starting to run down or go out. I know if you unplug the cable from the bass when not in use. it will last longer.

Any other advice would be helpful.....thanks

Distortion and then nothing

If you carry a spare battery, be sure it's wrapped in something nonconductive. I used to have a spare rolling around loose in my gig bag, and I put it in before a gig only to find out it was discharged, probably from touching against a zipper or something else conductive. It also could have started a fire that way (even "dead" 9V batteries have enough juice to start a fire if you don't insulate the contacts before throwing them in the recycle pile). So I keep spares wrapped in plastic bags now--lesson learned.
