R.I.P. Chef

This is some of the saddest news I have received in quite some time.

I have to say that Chef’s (Alan) contributions to the development of the Mesa Boogie WD, TT and one other model not yet released, as well as the significant changes in the fundamental way that we approached the owner’s manuals on these products (from a player’s perspective) will live on for many years. In fact, the bright switch (starting with the D-800+) on the Subway amps is a nod to Alan’s tonal preference for a bass to sit better in a mix… the Alan filter. Great player, great ear for tone and a great guy.

Working with he and Al Kraft on the feature sets and manuals (as well as the wonderful off topic diversions) was always enlightening and a privilege.

We were all proud to have him as part of the Subway development team.

We had hopes that he would be successful in his ongoing battle. Godspeed my friend, wishing you success in your next gig adventure.

Wow, so sorry to hear this. My condolences to family and friends. Chef was a great TB’er and someone who I learned quite a bit from when I first started here in ’07 and only owned one bass. We had a few exchanges and found we liked similar gear (G&L, Sadowsky and Mesa) among other things. I’ve been enriched knowing him. I'll lift my glass this evening to you Chef. You will be missed.

I just had a brief exchange with him Monday.

I interacted with him since probably about 2002. Really great guy. He got diagnosed right in the middle of my girlfriend struggle with cancer before she passed away in December. I had my daughter make this poster for him when he was asking for any kind of trinkets to help him in his fight.

When he started posting the details of a recurrence I knew it wasn’t good but I didn’t think it would be this fast.
