Real Fender Custom Shop?

I'm just gonna say that post #20 wins this thread.

Post #20:
Notice how the fretboard extends toward the pickups beyond the heel? I'm only aware of third parties such as Warmoth doing that. Any way to get pics of the neck pocket and neck heel? I'm not saying that CS couldn't. Just pointing out that I haven't seen it before.

You know...first I thought that this was possibly a customer requested option. However, I believe that if you were to order a Masterbuilt instrument with 21 frets, they would just build it with a standard heel and matching neck pocket rather than using the overhang trick.

Actually...on closer examination of the pictures...I am fairly certain that this neck does not have the overhang. You can clearly see the maple beneath the rosewood along the bottom.

So...Post #20 is not the winner of the thread after all and the authenticity of the neck is still debatable.

That seller had no intention of clearing the air, until he was questioned. He nearly pulled it off. That is not a CS bass. The logo will forever be bogus, and the neck itself, always in question. It's a $600 parts bass.
I don't see the definitive discrepancy in the logo you are referring to. It looks more like the legit logo than the bogus logo you posted examples of.

Sigh......
On your bogus logo, the serial numbers have an arc and the legit logo the serial numbers are straight. The logo in question is more like the legit logo in this respect. Please point out to me exactly what is wrong? It is very hard to tell from the little, off kilter photo we are provided.

Look at the pics of the two correct ones I posted. Plain as day. The typeset used for "PRECISION BASS" is very unique.

Had a feeling it was too good to be true. Seller was at least honest and very cool about it.

Still a cool bass, gonna go check it out on wednesday. Don't think id pay that much for it, but if I dig it i might offer $900 and see what he says. Probably wouldnt pay more than 1000 for a parts bass but I'll see how it plays.

Thanks for all the replies everyone :)

Chr*st, what a crock of sh** that jerk is peddling. "I didn't know, but if you care..." You know what, don't give this scam artist anything. Find another bass. He is being neither honest nor cool. Believe me, he knew all of this when he posted the ad.

You are probably right.

I don't think the typeset is remarkably different, it is really hard to tell with the crummy resolution of the photo, but the spacing sure is off.

Note the placement of the "O" in PRECISION relative to the shape of the headstock... the two legit logos are very similar while the bass in the ad is way off.

If he was really cool, he would've updated his ad by now.

Post #20 meaning that the heel and neck pocket pics settled the matter.

FranF for the win!

Logo is also not long enough. The F in Fender looks like it's placed in about the right spot, but the last s in Bass should be about an inch from the end of the headstock. The font size is too small.

It is possible the seller did not know so maybe automatically calling him a fraud is a bit far. The tone of his correspondence with OP makes it sound like he was under the impression that he had bought a full Custom Shop from the pro he dealt with to get it.
