Recommend a delay with tap tempo

I just got a Mooer ReEcho Pro for $85 new. It has tap tempo. It also has a looper mode (delay and looper modes are mutually exclusive). It actually has a bunch of features but I haven't had time to really play with it yet.

I've got 4, a Tech 21 Boost DLA TT, Way Huge Supa Puss, tc electronic Nova Repeater and an old Boss DD5 I've had forever. They all sound pretty different and if I could have only one, I would keep the Tech 21 honestly. What kind of delay sound do you want?

Honestly, I just need a simple delay with tap tempo. I'm using the dispatch master and have a mini flashback. I like them both, but since I don't use in ears for a click, our music breathes at times hence the reason for the tap need.

I think either a Boss DD-7 or a DD-5 is the way to go. Simple, small, sturdy and tempo can be set from the pedal itself or external switch plus they can be found <$100 used very frequently (especially the DD-5).

Mooer also has a newer mini delay/reverb pedal out as well. It has tap tempo capabilities and is definitely tiny but I haven't heard any demos yet so can't speak for its sounds. Might be worth a look though for $88.

This isn't a recommendation, but it might be useful for your decision-making.

I wouldn't go for the Digitech Obscura. I love mine for the different kinds of delay and other controls it has, but the tap tempo is its weakness. It takes too long to initialize and can be awkward to turn off. It's its only real downside, I figure that's what happens when you cram so many features into such a small pedal.

UMMM.... Why not just hold down the foot switch on the Mini Flashback, then strum some muted notes, or pick some notes to the tempo, then release... its not tap tempo, its pick tempo.

You can do that for free!

What tha?! I didn't realize it could do that...

I tried that when I had Flashback, but I wasn't satisfied, just wasn't quick tap tempo enough for me.
For an MXR sized pedal like you need, honestly something like DD7 with a small tap tempo switch if you can fit it will do better. Or perhaps Line 6 Echo Park (had it too, nice pedal, but a bit clunky tap tempo).

For a slightly larger pedal (something like MXR Phase 100), I'd really recommend TC Nova Repeater. I've had mine for years now, and it's amazingly easy to use, sounds better than any delay I've used on bass, and the tap tempo is fast and usable. Maybe sell both your delays and get something slightly bigger but with a useful tap tempo?

Do you want an analogue or digital delay?

If analogue my vote is a Deluxe
Memory Boy. It's stayed on my board despite challenges from a Deluxe Memory Man 550tt and a Maxon AD9, and it's the only pedal I move back and forth between my g****r and bass boards. I don't play a gig without it.

For digital this is a little odd but I'd honestly say a Line 6 m5. You can get them for almost as cheap as you can get other tap tempo delays and it has a dedicated tap switch, a number of great sounding delay sounds, plus some great modulation and reverb sounds as well, and some bad drive and filter sounds that are there and you'll never use but who cares it's more than worth it.

I prefer analog and analog voiced delays and the DMB fights well above it's weight. Buy one used for $100, maybe less.
