recommend me some small solid state bass amp heads

The iamp might be out but the doubler 2 is under 8” deep and a great sounding amp.

iAMP Doubler II - Euphonic Audio

Oh yeah. I had the first one and I wasn't so sure that it would be that small. I never measured mine. And it looks very classy with the brushed aluminum and would work well with the fliptop color scheme.

Thread drift: Has anyone anywhere ever confirmed the conditions under which those 500 watts tc claims are achieved? Every published spec I've ever seen has been incredibly vague, with no explanation of whether that's RMS, Peak, Instantaneous Peak [sic], or some other arbitrary measurement...and they don't even mention whether that's into the minimum load, or what! Very suspect.

(That being said, I own a BQ500, it's a nice enough amp. I just have no idea how much power it's really putting out.)

I agree with you Bob - I would be very surprised if the BQ500 puts out anywhere near 500 watts. I was using mine as a backup, but then moved to an Eden WTX500 as backup. Now the BQ sits on a shelf. Not a bad amp; in fact, it's pretty well built and sounds good, but I don't think it's putting out anywhere near 500 watts.

you all know how crazy i am about vintagey looking things, so what in the world is that title?!!? well, i just need to find a good, small, class d bass amplifier that has a depth of sub 8 inches. very specific, i know! i’m trying to find an amp head that can work in the fliptop cabinet i’m planning on pairing it with. an odd combination, for sure. but recently i stumbled upon this picture of tim bogert in some kind of electronics room and it made me realize how cool some class d amp head would look on top of that shiny blue grill and black tolex fliptop cabinet. plus, he’s one of my favorite bass players and he cranked out using very industrial looking amps and solid state heads. so, if you guys have any micro bass heads (or any form of affordable, small, and powerful bass amp heads) that would fit the criteria for being 8 or less inches deep (front to back) send away please!! man, doesn’t this sound ridiculous :roflmao::laugh:

I'd recommend the DNA-800 amp to you but it is 10" deep and not 8" or less. It's a very light (4.8-lbs.) 800-watt @4Ω amp that will also go down to 2Ω if needed. It has a particularly nice compressor with both threshold and ratio controls. Actual dimensions are 12" wide, 10" deep, and 1½ rack spaces tall (2¾").

Another option that will get you 500-watts rms into 4Ω or 250-watts into 8Ω is the Eden TN501 or TN502 (2 input channels switchable by footswitch). They are both: 12¾" wide, 6.9" deep, and 3.1" tall. So either of those might work for you. I have the Eden TN-226 (225-watts rms @4Ω) which has the same chassis and preamp but lower power. Weight is 5.3-lbs. The sound on these small Eden d-class amps is every bit as warm as my big Eden WT500/800 amp with its hybrid preamp.

It has a bass shelving EQ with a 30-Hz shelf, two semi-parametric controls that let you boost or cut any frequencies between 30Hz and 2KHz, and a treble shelving EQ that adjusts everything above 2KHz. It has separate inputs for passive and active basses, a gain control with gain-clip light to help dial in the best signal to send to the power section (make that light dance!), an Enhance control that boosts bass and treble while scooping out the mids, a bass boost button that allows you to boost the bass without cutting or boosting anything else, and a surprisingly good auto-compressor (much better than the one on my big Eden amp). With the compressor engaged, you can use the gain control to set the threshold where it activates.

This is a very nice sounding amp with great clarity and articulation as well as warmth to the sound. You can dial in just about any sound you want with its EQ system and I highly recommend it. I just wish I had bought the TN-501 instead of the TN-226 because 500-watts @4Ω is a LOT more versatile than 225-watts @4Ω. Street price is usually around $649 but if you can wait until late January or early February for delivery, you can order now and get it for $396.50 directly from Gear4Music.com (be sure to click the USA flag for USA prices and options), who recently bought Eden from Marshall (Marshall will still do the manufacturing). Outside of that, they do show up used for around $399 to $499.

If the other dimensions work for you, this one is just less than 7" deep and can give you 500-watts at 4Ω

question: does that rack mounted eden have any area for me to be able to mount it onto the lid of the fliptop cabinet? with amps that have little feet, that’s all you need to put it in, but rack mounted amps have no such thing on the bottom.
Acoustic Image. - Acoustic Image - the SL is one channel and cheaper but because the old B15 had multiple channels. 7.2 or so inches deep

The iAmp micro not in production anymore

But the Traynor has that no frills vibe about it.

I can't catch up with all your projects and bass purchases. :D. I thought you were doing a slant cabinet
haven't purchased a thing yet! because i still don’t know what i want to do and how :roflmao:

Unless they changed the design recently, the last one I saw had stick-on rubber feet that weren't bolted on.
There was also a recessed panel underneath that was meant to hold the rack ears when the unit wasn't rack mounted.

When the Terra Nova line came out, they had combos and those amps had different bottoms so they could be bolted into the back of the cabinets. I haven't seen the combos in a while.

I don't know how much power you need, but I have..actually two of them..GKMB200 heads. I used one yesterday at an outdoor town fair thing, sitting on an Avatar 15 4 ohm and never had it past 11 o'clock. Good sound too. Lotta power in a small package and can be had used for under $200.

Right there with you. If I played a lot and needed unparalleled head room, this wouldn't be my amp. But, with my pair of ELF 110 cabs it can hang with a loud drummer and guitar without nearing distortion (which sounds terrible on this amp).

One weird thing is that my Reverend Wattplower, with really hot pickups, overdrives this amp no problem, barely noon on gain. Have to use the pad. The Barts in my Bacchus SS jazz don't do that as t all.

i’ve found about 3 bass heads that currently fit my criteria, though one of them (the eden) has a problem i can’t really fix, which is that it doesn’t have little peg feet so i can’t connect the amp to the cabinet lid in any way if i were to purchase it. so… i don’t think i can use it. but the other two are tc electronics BAM200, and traynor’s small block 200 watt amp. the eden tera nova would be the best out of the 3, but the previous issue, if i’m correct about it, can’t be resolved at all.

Ok. If it sounds nice enough do you really care how many watts?
I cannot believe the low prices. Thomann. Amazing.
The Warwick Gnome 200w is $150. lol

Industrial strength Velcro or just straps would work to secure a light class D head to a flip top.

OP, have you completely abandoned just making your own cab? Then you can make the flip opening whatever dimensions you want.
