Recommendation to replace a 15'' Black Widow

Edgedhorse,
What about a Mesa/Boogie speaker? Like that of the Diesel 15"?
I have no idea if your cabinet tuning would be anywhere near close enough.

I generally recommend sticking with what the original designer used, unless you know more than the designer.

If you have deformed the VC, your only choice with the existing speaker is to replace the basket (which contains all new soft parts).
Andy sir, how do you place the magnet on the new basket without damaging the voice coil? I think the OP is concerned with this as a risk. The video I posted just says align it. I believe that is a video from Peavey. Their instructions from their website are no more forthcoming. Is it somewhat self aligning?

I cut up a thin drinking straw so I have 3 pieces.
I stand those pieces in the screw holes in the basket.
Then I slowly lower the magnet onto the basket by lining up the magnet holes with the drinking straw pieces.
I remove the straw pieces and place the bolts in.
I have used this method to replace a basket in a dark bar with very little light.

Sounds clever. I'll give it another try with this method. Thanks.
