Double Bass Red Eye Preamp

When you find out how to do this let me know. I can't see any way that can be accomplished given that the preamps output is tied to the loop out.
Yeah, seems like there needs to be a splitter pedal somewhere to accomplish this. I wish there was a separate output on the Redeye ….

If you put say a tuner and a hpf before the Redeye, I don’t know that it would buffer the signal the same. If you put them after the Redeye, you couldn’t mute the DI to the board.
 
The only way I see this happening is by ignoring the xlr out of the redeye.
Just connect the redeye send into a Lehle P split (or any di for that matter) then use the direct out for the amp and the isolated out as a di. Get a jack to xlr adapter if needed
I’d like to use the loop in my Redeye for a tuner and hpf, but I’d still like to have an effected out to an amp. Any routing suggestions?

but any FOH is gunna have HPF. YOUR HPF is for you. If you want to run a bunch of pedals with FX then I could see adding a complication like another splitting pedal but not for just an HPF which is really just to keep your amp happy.

I contacted Fire-Eye recently and confirmed that all of their devices have the impedance matching magic. So, I found a used Bright Eye and will try it on a small gig next weekend if all goes as planned. It will replace my Boss EQ that I've been using as a boost.

Planned signal chain is Realist Lifeline -> Bright-Eye -> Headway EDB 2 H.E. -> PJB Double 4. This is similar to the setup I've used at the same venue many times before, but I plan to not use the mic channel and see how it goes.

I trialed the Red-Eye way back but didn't get a chance to take it out on a gig. I'll see how this goes, but I'm kind of leaning towards getting a Tonedexter and hoping to use that as my go to setup. I'm a little tired of the mic for live gigs....
 
Another testimonial: I had an outdoor gig in iffy weather yesterday and decided to use my old Kay with guts. For lack of a better choice I put on a really old Clevenger PU that I hadn't used in decades and never really sounded very good. The playing conditions were not pleasant but I have to say the bass sounded great. To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. The difference was the Red Eye. The rest of the rig was my usual stuff. The sound was punchy, clear, and balanced- an old Kay with gut strings. It made what could have been a miserable gig into quite a pleasant experience. The Red Eye made this PU that had never been really usable into one that sounded nice and functional.

Most of the time on the good rigs they do have a HPF. Fortunately for me, the Grace Felix has a stellar HPF so no worries here. I've had mine for nearly 7 years now. In past times I have occasionally run a cross a house board in a small club that didn't have the High Pass Filter on the board. My one
wish is that you could do a RedEye conversion circuit for any amplifier, :thumbsup:

The Red Eye doesn't have a HPF filter right? If I wanted to use it with my fDeck, would it go 1st in line or 2nd?
It doen’t, , that said it processes the signal in a way that seems to preclude having a HPF. At least it does with my preamp and powered cabinets. My Grace Felix and and Headway EDB-2 H.E. both have HPF’s . I would put the RedEye first and use the FDeck. HPF second.

I can't help it. Once again I must relate how well the RedEye has worked for me in so many different situations. I played with three different groups of various sizes and types at a jazz festival yesterday. The backline rig for bass was a Mesa Boogie head, quite large, and a BareFaced cab with four 12s(!) Undaunted, I plugged in the RedEye and hoped for the best. The sound guy thought I was crazy, but it worked extremely well. To give him his due, he said the bass sounded great- better than the BGs that played through it. It was my basic one-element Vic's pickup into the RE into the amp. I have used these two parts into several amps in different settings now and have always gotten an at least decent and useable sound. My goal of good sound with the simplest electronics seems to be working pretty well.:)
