Reverend Mike Watt sig...

bassslinger melon,

no more prototypes, the wattplower mark II is here!

mark II has three different ways to work pickups now using three-way switch:

* leo's '57 pbass idea reversed

* leo's original '57 pbass idea (wattplower mark I setup)

* rio grande pitbull neck pickup

the pblade pickups have ceramic magnets and the pitbull has alnico.

mark II has slight body change to help work the "non-cash register" part of the neck.

Man, that is a crazy great idea with the presto change-o P coils! I'm surprised nobody ever thought of that before. Going econo...good call, Mike. Looks like a nice solid road dog that won't wreck your shoulder.

Totally rad! So glad you collaborated with Reverend, keep doing you!

Love the 45 with Larry Mullins by the way.

bassslinger jimmy,

big respect to you. you're right about coming from econo to get to where I got, doing many gigs helped also.

I got the "reverse-leo" split pickup idea by first seeing dave alexander's mosrite bass when you open up the "fun house" album gatefold

and then leo's fender V design:

Fender Bass V - Wikipedia

I gotta thank the reverend guitars people for going back and forth w/me via many prototypes and discussions, bearing w/me positive and open-minded.

Sure, the slant of the Mosrite and the Bass V pickup inspired others to try the P coils in reverse, but to my knowledge, this is the first bass I've seen that will let you choose between reverse or normal. And the space difference between reverse P coils in the usual spot and moving them down a little would open it up to something noticeably different but cool. And your coil for the D and G would be consistent while you change how much asskick on the low notes you want. Not entirely reinventing the wheel but certainly a new twist.

bassslinger jimmy,

what I've found w/the reverse pcoil stuff is a different balance between the four strings, the bottom tightens up in the reverse mode. of course the g and d strings stay the same but relative to the e and a strings w/the new voicing, the relationship between the four stings themselves changes. I just thought it was the most econo way to make this happen.

you got great insights w/bass, much respect to you!

Hey Mr. Watt!
I received my Mark II a couple of days ago and while noodling during quarantine, all I can say is wow! Genius, even brilliant design and concept. I am a minimalist when it comes to gear, no effects, just a bass and amp...Set it and forget it. It is literally like having three basses in one. How nobody thought of this before is crazy. Love, love, love the concept you and Reverend came up with. This bass thuds, rocks, and roars! Thank you.

"I am a minimalist when it comes to gear"... outside of recording on my phone I wouldn't even begin to know how to get clips posted on here. I sure that would not do it justice. Sorry. The middle pickup setting is reportedly just like the Mark I, there is a clip or two of that sound on utube. Pbass on steroids. The rear position or reverse P has a much tighter, defined low end and it great for running rock bass lines and such. The pitbull is warm with a sweet top end, move your playing position up toward the board and it get dub worthy fat real quick. Hope this helps. Best

Mostly just joking about clips but thanks for the review!

So cool! I was wondering if the release might be delayed for a while given what's going on in the world. Glad to hear they're starting to get out in the wild.
