You can only do that so many times...
Rounds on a fretless will chew up your board, no doubt. I have flats on mine and wouldn't switch, but then I like the sound.
Depends on the fingerboard. It really does.
I guess ebony will wear much slower than rosewood... my Wal fingerboard seems much harder than the one on my Guild even though they both look like ebony
I've had a few Zon fretless basses - they do not wear; My Roscoe, with a composite fingerboard, never wore... my G&L with an ebony fingerboard wore *just a bit* - easily cleaned up. The only instruments I've seen this be a problem are rosewood fingerboards and really - who makes a fretless with a rosewood fingerboard anymore?
It's also a string/setup issue.
I'd worry more about eating up your fingerboard. Considering the price point, it may be more susceptible to wear.What about string noise issues?
