Using the Sadowsky Preamp and VT Bass Deluxe it’s a crazy thing?

People sometimes forget the room we are playing takes a huge impact on the tone we have. If you use the same settings on two different venues your rig will sound differently on each room.

there are venues that naturally amplify the Bass ou the treble, other the mids. Is a matter of know how to EQ for the room. Usually I go and speak to the sound guy (using a wireless system is a must) and I tell him what I want. Then we together EQ the bass tone to the room. And when I’m happy I know that the FOH bass tone will be what I want. Even if the stage sound is bad. All that matters for me is what people is listening to.

I going again on this question of EQ and volumes. Sorry but this is really a nice question to be discussed. :)

You can heave the tone in your rehearsal space oar studio or whatever. Those are controlled spaces. And you set your knobs to positions that you like and feel that “this is my tone”. Then when you go to play a show, you must adapt your setting to the room, usually with EQ. The sound you have on stage, assuming you have your amp and cab as a backline, is easy to control with simple tweak. But then you need to go to the sound guy and ear what is going out on the PA. There are so many variables to change the sound that you need to adjust for the room.

I give you an extreme example. If you are playing outdoors. Even on a giant PA. A simples burst of wind will change your sound. Your tone and your volume. You can’t fight that.

The Sadowsky preamp pedal is practically the same active preamp circuit used in Sadowsky basses. This is why it's a good idea to place it as the first pedal in your signal chain. My MIJ Fender P Bass with flats sound better going through this pedal.

I only use on passive basses. It would be redundant to use it on active basses but if it sounds better then go for it Just be sure to adjust your input gain accordingly.

I'll be switching over to the Boss GT 1000 soon but I plan to keep using the Sadowsky Preamp. However, I may not need it if the GT 1000 has a similar effect as the Sadowsky Pre.

Just a friendly tip. As they appear in your photo the knobs on the Sadowsky "shouldn't" be set like that, according to Roger Sadowsky, that is. He says the volume should be full, and the bass & treble boost only, around 8 and 9 o'clock respectively.

I disagree that the Volume knob should be set to full. I use the Volume or Level knob on all my pedals to match the output (or volume level) to be the same with the pedal engaged or disengaged (unless, the level knob is a Wet/Dry "Blend Knob" which is of course, a different thing).

I understand his point of view. Because the Sadowsky preamp is a boost only pedal. But if the signal is too hot you have to cut the volume so you match it with the pedal turned off.
