SansAmp Bass Driver DI

Do you have any personal experience with the VT Bass DI? If so, care to share thoughts on it versus the BDDI?

I've actually owned both versions of the VT, the pre-DI version and the DI version.

For me, V1 was a nonstarter simply due to the lack of blend control and lack of a DI output.

V2 (the DI version) was a big improvement, both in functionality and connectivity, but the BDDI still worked better for my needs: there was definitely more tonal versatility to the VT Bass DI due to the character knob, but for me it was much easier to find "that sound" with the BDDI.

Thanks for the insight!

Great thread, appreciate you guys sharing the knowledge of how to make this oft misunderstood pedal sound great!

I’m starting to look for a used BDDI and it’s starting to become very obvious that the “v2” moniker of the current version is a bit misleading. I think I’ve seen 3 or 4 different variations of the “V1”, each with different switch/button options. Is anyone familiar with the differences? Do they all sound the same?

I go into the pedal in some detail in this tutorial here, you might find it helpful:

Finally got around to watching this video, great stuff! @MDBass, thanks for going into how you use the pedals on your board. You didn't end up using the Barbershop though. When do you typically use it? I feel most use it as their tone sweetner, but you're already using the Cali and BDDI for that.

I've used it for everything from added warmth to dynamic OD to heavy vintage fuzz. It's definitely more of an auxilliary/as needed pedal for me personally than an always on unit.

I have the original BDDI. I often have to play through an amp provided by the venue and bring the BDDI to get warm Ampeg tone. The manual did say that lowering bass and treble was in effect raising mid so I've done that. For recording I've often turned the blend up but when playing through an amp I've usually used it at 9 oclock. I usually turn the Drive knob up until it breaks up a bit when you play harder. This thread was a fantastic tutorial on how to use the BDDI!
