Second bass build - Effortless playability

Hey all, thanks for the feedback regarding the headstock. It's always good to get a second set of eyes on it. I think you might be right that the thing I'm responding to is the color of the headstock rather than the design itself. Thanks for that.

I haven't weighed the bass, but it's the lightest bass I own right now. My P bass is 8 lbs. and it's lighter than that. I'd estimate around 7 lbs....so it's very light, but not super light. I don't think I could go much lighter than that without a headless design...otherwise neck dive might set in.

A major contributor to the weight are the double humbucker pickups. They probably add like a half pound to the total weight, maybe more. They epoxied Really surprising.

I think version 2 might have a thinner body and a shorter scale length. That will help to make it even lighter. I also want to make a few changes to the body shape and the neck profile, as mentioned before. The bass balances way better than your standard Fenders when in a resting neutral position, but it's not quite perfect.

So, have you tried a three hour session with her yet?. ;)

Ha! Believe it or not, I haven't! I was waiting to get these photographs done before I accidentally scratched it or nicked it somehow. Now that I have it photographed I'll probably give it a proper setup and start playing it!

For the short amount of time I have played it, it sounds really great. So much sonic versatility in those double humbuckers and the audere preamp.

This looks amazing! Can you elaborate on the control layout? I've just finishing a bass with double Aguilar MM pickups, so I'm curious as to your configuration. :)

Audere Preamp
Three stacked knobs (making six knobs total)

stacked knob 1: Bass/Treble
stacked knob 2: low mid/high mid
stacked knob 3: volume/volume (one for each pickup)

I have the bridge pickup the standard musicman position. I placed the neck pickup where musicman places their neck pickups on the HH basses...that one was more of a ballpark estimate whereas the bridge pickup was pretty exact.

I highly recommend the Audere preamp. It's really good.

One setting I personally really like: bridge pickup 100% volume, neck pickup 60% volume, high mids boosted, treble low mids and bass flat. low mids boosted on amp (it's a subway d800).

I boost the low mids on the subway d800 and not on the preamp because I find the frequency range on the d800 for their low mids to be more pleasing.

Great, thanks!
