I own a P Bass. Its a very good P bass. However, I don't know if it is MY P Bass....

I really like it, except that it doesn't have an asymmetrical neck profile, and it doesn't have a maple fretboard, and it doesn't have a J pickup added.

I also have other nice basses, none of which are passive P basses.

If I were to sell this and run into one of the sound men that I hear about on TalkBass, I would lose gigging opportunities and be laughed out of countless establishments.

No pictures for you! This is not a "sly" for-sale ad, so I wont provide specs or pics. But its rosewood, Sunburst on alder, and tort. Yes, It has the tort.
If sold I would lose money on it. But that is money I already do not have.

What say you lot: Do I sell the P Bass?

Sounds like for you, the best p bass is a j bass!

Since I am in the 'everyone should own a P' camp,
I vote keep the current P...
until you have the dream PJ in hand.
Then see where you are.

Even with the new one in hand,
you might still find that nothing gets a good P sound
quite like a real P.

I think I can imagine the bass you want to build or buy.
I mention both options because it may not be easy to find everything
you want in one bass.
I think one question to ask related to that is;
who makes an assymetric P bass neck with maple FB?

In my honest opinion, all Fender USA P Basses are not created equal (same goes for about every other make/model bass). When you find “the one”, you’ll know it, and never consider selling it. Sounds to me like you have not found “the one”...yet. You will.

That’s a very good question. Actually it may be that only Warmoth offers an asymetrical neck for a P Bass neck currently, I haven’t found any others.
