Show Your " Biggest Waste" piece of crap bass you regretted immediately.

HaHa.... had the same bass, and forgot all about it. Had I remembered, that's the bass I'd have put in this thread. Thanks.

Mine was more of a hot pink metallic though. With a single P pickup. Did not vibe with that bass a single bit.

Yer welcome!

And yessiree! That’s the bass. Or its cousin. Single split coil, light as a feather, good looks, and hopless to play.

I was told there were neck stability issues with that model due to the somewhat wide but thin neck they had. Whatever. I didn’t need science to know it was unworkable after awhile.

My “real problem” is that anytime something goes sideways I always tend to blame myself first. Not a bad life strategy. But sometimes it’s really not “just you” at all. Sometimes it really is THEM! As I found out.

I don't have a picture but I got a stingray 4 with an SLO neck and I hated it. The neck radius was way too chunky for my tastes, the pup sounded way too thin even with all the knobs maxed out, and the dark sunburst was ugly as hell. Only had it for 2 weeks before I sold it. The person I sold it to made it sing in a way I couldn't, better off with him anyways. The second was this used 1990 MIJ P bass I bought off ebay last year, big mistake. The neck was like a baseball bat and no matter how hard I tried to like it I just couldn't get use to it. J necks are more comfy, I think I'm going to retire P basses. I buy them and always end up trading or selling them in the end.

That's easy, a Hondo Explorer bass from somewhere in the 70's. I was young and didn't know any better. Biggest POS I ever owned.

Funny story, I finally sold it to someone I knew who actually really wanted it. Then sometime around 1983, I think, he actually convinced a girl friend of mine at the time to buy it back for me for my birthday . I couldn't get away from that thing, it kept coming back .

I kept it for some time since it was gift, but I eventually had to let that disaster go again. I hope it doesn't find me this time :rollno:.

I don't mean to indict this entire line, or even this specific model, but mine was a lemon pie, not even worthy of heroic efforts to turn it into a player.

Stagg. Looks amazing, right? That's what I thought.

The very first bass that I ever owned was a Cort X bass. I bought it used for under $100.00. The bass was horrible. The neck was warped, the E string tuning peg was missing the head, the intonation was off, the bass never stayed in tune and really made it harder for me to learn because it was in such rough shape. One of the youth leaders at my church worked for a high end music store/repair shop. He took my bass in and for free got everything adjusted as good as possible. He then made a new head for the E string tuning key. He made it out of wood but it worked and was free but even after he did everything, the bass was in rough shape. I appreciated what he did though. I had little to no money at the time and he did everything for free.

My next Bass was a Washburn XB-400. The bass looked awesome and played okay but when I got it home I hated the tone I was getting from it. Then the pickups in it were much hotter than my other basses so if I switched to it, I had to completely adjust my settings on my rig thus making it useless at gigs.

Here are some pics of what each bass looked like.

i didn't really "vibe", connect or "gel" with a status energy 4 string bass that i once had. it was natural finish of some dark and light wood combination, i forget maybe maple and walnut? with 2 x soapbars... anyway, every tone in that thing sounded too sterile, thin and plasticky.
i had a markbass F1/bergantino AE212 rig at the time so i don't know if was that i had a really hi-fi sound sound that wasn't working for me or what...

i have a little bit of same issue with my zon BG4 in that there is only really 1 tone in it that i like and thats the front soapbar pup switched on. the other 2 settings middle switch and jazz pup sound a bit thin and sterile too so i never use them and i don't know what i could change. i thought about an active/passive switch?
i thought that at middle switch it engaged both the soap and j pups but there's not really such a good tone there. on the other hand, the zon 519 that i used to own was a mutant tone monster! but i digress...

OK, I know, no pic, no bass, but there is really only one bass I have ever regretted buying, and I am picless, (and I did it more than once), a Rickenbacker 4001.

Wanted to love those basses so badly, but the two I bought just felt like poorly strung 2 x 4s in my hands.

They look uber-cool, sound positively unique, but for the life of me I just can’t make them work ~ for me.

A Mapleglo and Jetglo by he way.

No pic but on a whim I once bought an Explorer bass (copy)... so massive it would dwarf a Thunderbird, like a huge slab of 80s metallic red pointiness. Amazingly thin neck that felt like a pencil after playing a P-bass. Didn’t keep it long.

Ibanez EX 404 4string. Not junk. But it was extremely light, body was small and the neck was like a guitar neck. Felt like a toy. Just didn’t feel like a BASS. Dug it in the store got it home and played it out and was just like man this is just not gonna work. I think I traded to get it then ended up trading to get rid of it.

Mine was a Washburn B20. Very hot p-pickup and a single coil so close to the bridge that it was totally useless sound wise, plus neck dive that would make a Thunderbird jealous. Good for playing Metal and not much else. Sold it at a big loss three weeks after I bought it. View attachment 2878375
I always thought those were cool Basses. Shame it didn’t work out

haha! i was in a used music gear shop a few days ago and picked one of those out of the rack to look at....i only LOOKED at it!

When i was a kid i had an (I think) Ayar. It was hollow body long scale. The name badge was a piece of sticky back mailbox letter aluminum sheet. It was masked with the name and painted black so when the mask was removed the name was gold, then stuck on the headstock. I played it for a while growing up then laid it down for a number of years. When i started back it was toast from living in a closet for all those years. I tried to make it work but it was well beyond my capability. I don’t have a photo and i can’t google one up. I did find a pic of a 6 string Ayar that looks just like the bass only no trem tailpiece and no pickguard. If memory serves it’s got a single chrome bick of a pickup. My dad still has it hanging in his music room. If i can ever remember when i’m there i’ll get a pic. Here’s the 6 string photo.

I'd love to find one or better yet the 8 string version. I use to have the Matching Guitar (A-20V) and it was one of the finest instruments I've ever owned or I should say, jointly owned. My best Navy buddy bought it new and put a Floyd on it and we traded it back and forth between us for 30 years until he passed with it. It had the most beautiful Top, the colors were awesome and it played fantastic.

Well cut me a little slack this wasn’t like 2 months ago. It was like early early 90’s when I got it. All the metal guys played Ibanez. I think I saw one in a warrant video. Haha. Big selling point. :bassist:

We ALL make mistakes:unsure:

BC Rich Mockingbird. Aesthetic appearance is not my concern. Major body dings do not effect the tone or playability. I just can't connect with it. American made, signed, etc. It has it's own sound and has a home for someone. Just not me. My big issue is the neck just feels too long for my taste. Fretting at the headstock is a stretch for my arm. My arm is over-extended and I find myself fighting neck lift rather than neck dive. Difficult for me to play. I will sell it to someone that will be more comfortable with it and will enjoy it more than I.

My biggest "regret" purchase was actually a fantastic, well-constructed bass. I bought a Mike Lull 35" silver 5 string P/J with black guard and Sadowsky pre in it. It was super light and gorgeous.

I hated it. It didn't fit my hands at all. And no matter what I did it didn't react to my paying at all. Every note sounded the same no matter how I plucked it. I could use my fingers, pick, side of my thumb, hit hard, lay back, whatever. It all sounded the same. That bass had ONE SOUND and I couldn't change it no matter how hard I tried. I beat my head against a wall trying to bond with that bass. No dice. I probably owned that bass for a shorter amount of time than any other piece of gear I have owned.

I had that bass at one time-I think you purchased it from the TBer I traded it to
It came with the Sadowsky electronics when I purchased it
I wanted to love it but my experience was the same as yours
