SPECTOR® Owners Club

It would…do you have any sources?
It depends on how resourceful you are… how much you want to spend and how much work you want to put into it. I’ve fabricated them from raw brass material and I’ve modified them out of this premade version that is easy to cut down (for different projects, not Spectors).

Guyker also makes a Brass roller ball version (on Amazon), I’ve bought one of those too, but I’ve not used it yet.

You could also reach out to Jason at Fret Nation to see if you can order an authentic Spector part.

@got_the_bug THAT is Pure Bad Assery!!

Thanks! It’s been at my local favorite shop for a couple weeks, and I caved today. I was initially disappointed it wasn’t in the traditional EMG/HAZ config, but it played so well. I had Fishman Fluence pickups in a Schecter I had for a hot minute, and I actually really liked them. It was too beautiful to pass up…

You won’t regret THAT “brass nut” upgrade, it will sound amazing! 😂🤣😎🤘🏼

Spector makes some cool stuff. I have always been interested in trying one of their basses. Always been a Fender guy, but might pull the trigger on a Performer 4 Deluxe I found that is beat but solid where it counts.
As a non-Fender guy, I love that my Spector’s are nothing like Fenders (well they have strings and pickups)🤣😎

This club welcomes you with open arms 🤘🏼 you won’t regret it.

Have any of you ever spent way more on one Spector over another purely because it had the finish you wanted?

For context - I could get a used basically as new Euro LX at a good price. But for an extra 900, I could get a new one with the finish I prefer. Obviously there is the warranty element of buying it new also. But let's ignore that part for the moment and indulge the vanity side of things 😁

yep! when I bought my euro lt earlier this year the finish was a major factor. I strongly prefer matte/satin necks, so the decision was between a euro lx and various limited runs of other models. I could have gone with a euro lx for ~$600 less, but I didn't care for the matte black or blue of the old lxs (they look a little xtreme for the kind of music I typically play) and ended up with a chuck levin's limited run lt in matte natural. no regrets, I think it looks great and I don't worry about it clashing with outfits since it's pretty neutral.

Absolutely, I would, and have, and rarely for any practical reason other than I liked the features or finish of one over another. Not that I'd spite a good deal or I have an unlimited budget, but in most cases, I wouldn't choose to save a few hundred and end up with something I was less excited about.

Spectors have substance beyond just looking good, but I think most would agree that their finishes are one thing that make them stand out. Depends a bit on the buyer, of course...for those that view basses as simply "tools", then the aesthetics are less of a priority. I'm one of those that thinks of them as art and sculpture in addition to utility, so...finish matters to me! :)

I started as a Fender guy, and still am...but after cycling through a ton of gear, found that I'm a Spector guy as well. :)

They are quite different, but I can appreciate both brands...

I'm less about finish and more about specs. If something has the configuration/hardware I'm looking for, I'm willing to compromise on a whole lot of things, including the look.

In the past I've had a few basses/guitars that weren't exactly my thing become part of my signature look.

That said, I do have my limits.

Heheheh I have always been a Spector guy since the 80's....I didnt buy my first USA Fender until this year
I did have a MIM Jazz many many years ago but it had the resonance of concrete block
It may be a generalization, but in my experience...Fender is more inconsistent as far as quality is concerned. There are some amazing ones, especially out of the Custom Shop...but every Spector Euro/US model I have owned or played has been exceptional. There isn't really a direct price point comparison, as Fender US models are around $2300 MSRP and Spector Euros are about $1000 more.

So... the conclusion of a multi-month experiment.

I typically use a BDDI to FOH. Some time this summer I stopped using it as much. In one case I just plugged into festival backline (GK RB and Ampeg 410) and the soundman dug it, I also dug it, and no one had any complaints, so I decided to delete the BDDI and run with more of a clean DI sound for awhile (Spector w/ DCs and HAZ into a Cali76, DI'd to FOH).

One of my regular soundmen started complaining. He didn't know I removed the BDDI but said it was harder to make me sound as big as normal, and that he was having to work harder to control my dynamics. Settings that worked for one song would over compress the next song.

Another who knew I'd removed it said he preferred straight DI but did miss the saturation.

Last night was the final nail in the coffin. I've been running straight DI at rehearsal, popped the BDDI back in, and after the first song was asked what I'd changed as my bass sounded better than normal.

Personally, I really like both ways. Spector through a Cali76 to FOH sounds awesome. I've listened to recordings and I really like the results.

However, the BDDI brings a little somethin-somethin to the mix. I'd wanted to let a little more of that natural Spector tone through, but the writing is on the wall. I'm not exactly surprised or upset, Spector + SansAmp has defined more than one era of music. I feel I stand in pretty good company here.

Anyway, that's my story.
