My long departed L1K was a tone monster, with the pickup placement in the "sweet" spot.
Enjoy that classic, DH!
Thanks .... for a “simple” bass this thing is deceptively versatile !

It's very satisfying to hear someone having a like experience with an early G&L. I have an '82 L1000. The wide flat neck is very similar to a 1960 P-Bass I also own, except the L1000 has no neck dive like the Fender does. The sound is just remarkable. It has to be one of the most potent single pickup passive basses ever designed.
Sweet.I think Dave said he put TI flats on there
With every new bass acquisition, comes the inevitable dilemma, "which strings do I put on this bass???"Sweet.
Yup, KT Pawn. I had cash on hand, I knew better, but walked on it...Ouch, Dan .... I would’ve thought you would’ve jumped on that ! Was it one of the Anderson pawn shops ?

What a sweetie. The old ones sound so good. Let one go I wish I wouldn't have. Congrats!
... yep , those are T.I. flats , i keep them on most of my basses ...I think Dave said he put TI flats on there
I've got TI Flats on my 1980 L1K. It's of the mahogany body Ebony fingerboard variety. I remember when Guitar Resurrection had a metallic gold one back in the early 1980's. Jim was asking $450 for it. Great basses. Enjoy yours!

That is a great-looking bass !
My '89er was the first G&L I'd ever touched. Soon as I plugged in, bam -- instant GAS. When the pawnbroker dropped the price from $750 to $475, I couldn't resist.
I’m guessing that G&L’s have inspired “first time G.A.S.” For many people !
