Double Bass Switching between bow and pizz during a song

If you're looking for something mechanical to go between you and the amp you might consider the passive Classic Audio Effects roller pedal. It's a passive volume pedal that requires no power to function (but you can plug it in if you want the LED to light up) and it fits in a standard 1590B enclosure (regular old size pedal enclosure). I use one for electric bass but I think it might work for this application quite well. Instead of a fulcrum it uses a roller. Unique design and works great in these situations. I use mine to balance out my crazy high gain envelope filter.

You can find em on Reverb or used sites for around $80 USD.

I have a bassbone and it’s never let me down. I use it mainly for DB/BG doubling gigs, but it would work for the pizz/arco switch too. There are only two disadvantages compared to a small stomp box eq pedal: the eq isn’t as extensive but if it’s mainly just to cut highs and volume a bit it’ll work just fine. The second thing is it requires a power source where other smaller pedals can work on a battery. Not a big deal, but it’s a thing to consider.

I had a long term love/hate relationship with my Bassbone. Man it's a great piece of kit to own... but a proprietary 15v system with a huge wall wart... and the thing is made out of plate steel. It is quite literally bullet proof, but it weighs so much. I finally sold mine and only occasionally miss it.

You’d probably have to run this through the effects loop of hour amp (if it has one) because a piezo pickups really can’t provide enough juice to run a passive volume pedal. I did once try using a passive Ernie Ball volume through my amps effects loop, but it only did very light volume swells rather than the hopeful full volume range. I don’t know how this one will fare though an effects loop though.

@Sean Riddle ,

That's a very valid point. I usually forget because I've got my piezo going straight into an fDeck HPF before it even gets to the amp.

@AaronFish did you ever lay out your signal path? That might be helpful to make sure we're giving you the best information possible.
