TC Electronic Tube Pilot Overdrive

I have owned one of these and it definitely kills the lows. I ended up giving it to one of the guitarists in my band, who, I might add, is very happy with it and uses it constantly.
There is a variable resistor trim pot inside the pedal, but it's my understanding that it's used for biasing the tube and shouldn't be mucked with.

When did Behringer buy TC? I was under the impression this pedal dates from before that. But I may be wrong.
Also, if this is a rehoused Behringer, then which one?
2015. All the pedals in this form factor were released after then. Some of them are the same as Behringer models but in a sturdier housing; some of them are new. I don't think there's a direct match between the Tube Pilot and a Behringer-branded pedal, but it might be based on a VT911 Vintage Tube Overdrive without the tone control?

I read that the Tube Pilot was based on a Behringer pedal that used a 12AX7 in it but created a new board and other components inside to make it completely new. I just feel like TC was extremely innovative with their designs from the polytune, tone print editing and app, tone print in the bass heads, to the large number of different pedals they offered. Ever since I recall their site changing and hearing Behringer took over all they've really done was so takes on existing pedals with nothing earth shattering to take their innovations a step further.

Hi there - anyone using this Tube Pilot Overdrive pedal?

I am fiddling with it as a pre-amp play before my 200W class-d amp.
It really brightens up the notes, but actually kills a lot of the bass.

I have played with the trimpot (bias), turning it anti-clock wise. Not sure if it improved much - but seems to be getting hotter.
Has anyone used other tubes on it? Would a 12AU7 help tame it?
Any other ideas to make it better for the bass? Otherwise, I will just give it to my son for him to OD his guitar...

Tks,
