Tech 21 Introduces Steve Harris SH1 Signature SansAmp

I did have a seat, but was on my feet for the whole 2 hours.

I've learned that most larger venues (in Dallas at least) has very crappy sound the closer you are to the stage. Sound is mixed from center house, that's where i was. Everyone sounded great. Especially Nicko's drums
Yes, you are correct. There are many challenges when your doing live sound in a place that does not sound great to start out.
Also, the console's that they travel with these days have a ton of dynamics and recall features. Another factor, the venue at sound check sounds different come showtime with people in it. As far as tone, they probably captured his unique EQ curve, (which is really unique) and it sounds like he digs it. He might have an Iso cab under the stage as well as a DI/ ..cab mic'd up and this running this in front of it, (that's how i would do it). Even though running silent stage, their monitor guy's challenge and FOH guy is trying to dial it in so it sounds "normal" to the band (some in ears / some side-fill). I think this pedal could be enormously useful even in front of a combo to establish your tone. Tim did some excellent demos of how this pedal sounds when you "dig in" and change the settings and he was probably running direct. Granted, Tim has his own touch which is killer and also Steve Harris has developed his sound over the years much like guitar players with identifiable tone like Angus and Malcom Young or EVH with the finger and pic dynamics they play with. That said, this pedal looks like it can cover a lot of ground.

So... I totally just landed a job as a bassist in an Iron Maiden tribute ban (not joking - a legitimate Maiden tribute!). To say that I'm thrilled to bits redefines 'understatement'. Jam Iron Maiden songs with folks that take 'playing Iron Maiden' songs with respect, and playing them SERIOUSLY... and it's making me an even better PLAYER?! SIGN ME UP!
;D
:p

That all said, VERY excited to get a Tech 21 SH-1 to see what it'll do for the sound (I have a Tech 21 BDDI that I just use as a DI)... I'm, of course, thinking it'll be quite versatile, but on principal alone (...Iron... Maiden... tribute band... not just 'jamming in my house'...), I'll be getting one of these as SOON as I can. It'll be SO awesome to only have one pedal to connect to... plug, tune and GO!

Oh, and just to be sure I'm not insulting anyone... YES, I'm playing the strings they way he does (lightly drummer, 2 fingers only [index & ring], EQ pedals to mildly shape the tone, and SH77 Rotosound flats (at the moment, on my 1963 Precision Bass). I'm a single dad with a mortgage, so I have to pace my spending... but I'm well-aware that he mainly uses a 70s p-bass with a big ol' maple neck... I have a generation 1 Steve Harris signature p bass on its way to me, and I will eventually save up for the gen 2 and gen 3, knowing that they even more accurately represent his sound... along with the Tech 21 SH-1... I'm psyched!

I'm very lucky to have seen Maiden 4 times so far. Just saw them for the Legacy of the Beast tour... WHAT a treat.

Up the irons, you guys! Cheers!

(Typo above; "...lightly *drumming* the strings...")
;)

I've been seriously VERY lucky in my musical journey so far. Truth be told, though - I don't think I'd EVER been more excited about anything else I'd ever done. NOT a money maker, more a chance to tug on my flatwound heart strings.

;D
:p

Cheers!
