Double Bass The NEW MINI XLSON MIC --- NEW VIDEOS ADDED Sunday 10 12

FWIW, concerning the "optimizer" - the mic system's unique design uses a specially-made dual mic capsule to capture "the very loud sound pressure next to the top", and uses the second capsule to "get rid of the boominess that you get next to the f-hole, via a circuit in the preamp." That is how Peter Axelsson describes the process, and how he'd like it described. How it does it is a matter of his own proprietary design, and he'd prefer to keep speculation to a minimum. ;-)

Thanks Mark. Totally. This is TB though and to not speculate, is a tall ask I suspect. I sure want to know, just as a lay-person who loves the ingenuity of inventors. Especially when it comes to bass. But totally. Looking forward to trying it, thanks for making that happen. And Peter.
I'm vary curious if every area of the F hole is the same sound (I doubt it) and where it will sound best on my instrument.

You're quite right, it is a tall ask. And I'm certainly one who likes to speculate, poke, and prod at things to figure out what makes them tick! But I do understand Peter's need to protect his patents/inventions by not confirming/denying exactly how he makes the magic happen under the hood. ;-)

As for placement, I do think that most positioning along the edge of the f-hole will largely sound similar on each particular bass. I've always favored pointing sort of "across" the f-hole rather than pointing directly into it, but the unique nature of this microphone actually provides pretty impressive results even with a simple placement pointed directly in. I imagine that one will find a "sweet spot" on their own particular bass, but I don't find it finicky, which is a big benefit of a piece of gear like this. The ability to just haphazardly clamp it on and start playing without fiddling with micro-adjustments is a huge boon when you have very little time for setup/soundcheck, and is a "feature" that has not really been touted up until now...
