The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

A group text covers that.
We changed/lowered the key on 3 of the 5 songs we're playing at rehearsal last night. One of them I'm not playing - communion distribution music - but both of the other two I was using the open E frequently so adjusting was a bit more challenging (playing a 4-string in standard tuning).

I'm looking forward to getting setup with a bass in BEAD tuning - that's my project next week while I'm off work. The left-hand comfort of a nice thin Jazz neck with that lower range - there is a difference between D on the B string and D on the A string.

I discovered the necessity of this when a pianist kept coming in with the wrong keys. Come to find out, she was watching PCO and downloading the songbook PDF as soon as she saw songs were up. I already had group texts going for each week's team so I just made a point to say "keys are finalized" if I didn't have the final keys for all songs when I first started building the set.

Hope that works well for you. I've landed in that same place... Jazz neck in BEAD...it works well for me. I'm utilizing the D on the B string on two of our Christmas songs and it works.

I use cables with the Neutrik silent plugs with both right angle and straight ends and don't have a problem with either. The basses are Volume, blend, vintage roll off and treble, mid and bass. I just leave the treble, mid and bass flat and use the blend and roll off to get the tones I want. The other bass is also a J5 body with Nordie P/MM pickups and the same preamp. Camphor burl top - the first one I posted was Cocobolo.

My Dad's father was a master cabinetmaker and taught me woodworking so I am enamored with really nice wood. He spent lots of time with us to teach us well.

My Mom's father would not teach me his trade and I have been bummed about that since I was a kid. I mean, what kid would not want to blow up stuff??!!!!! He was a demo engineer for Texaco and planned/supervised all of the large use of explosives. What a bummer!

Is that an NP5/Bigman combo? I have been thinking about doing this combo except with Audere Pro Z preamp.

Question to all: What do you gravitate towards when interpreting new music first:
A. Original recordings
B. Video
C. Your own arrangement (or that which was created by your WL).

Second, how do you approach a key change when the vocalists can’t perform in the original key? Is it too chaotic or a small thing to adjust?
I prefer the original recordings but some of our vocalists need to change keys - I just transpose in my head most of the time but I am trying to make use of NNS.

Yes, and it is AWESOME! With the Nordie pickups and the 4 band preamp I am in tone heaven! Both basses are Devon's J5 body style and I have the NP5/Bigman pickups and the Dual Coil 5's.

I have the Audere preamp (classic 4 band) in my Warmoth fretless and it sounds great with the Seymour Duncan Basslines pickups. As you can probably tell - I built it almost 10 years ago.

BEAD tuning, to me, is way more practical than standard EADG. How often do you search for that LOW note compared with, "I wish I could go higher!" 'tis why I only own fivers these days. I'd rather have it and not need it than not have it and find that I do need it!
D standard for the same reasons.

I was having de ja vu on this conversation and went back and looked. We had a private conversation quite a while ago. I am a terrible procrastinator and have a full plate with all the other projects that I have going. This new build has been languishing for well over a year.

I plan to stop at Menards tomorrow and pick up some MDF to roughy out my body shape. Gotta get rolling on this or it will never get finished.

Try it! I’m really enjoying my P bass in BEAD… I thought about it for a long time and so far I’m really glad I did.

Had a three-hour rehearsal this morning for our Christmas program. Lots of logistics to totally rearrange our sound system hook ups, as the 45 person orchestra and our band takes over a seating wing of our sanctuary.

Sounded good overall. Dress rehearsal Wed Dec 3, performance Dec 4&5.

The view from my seat...

I'm still amazed I get to do this. Truly a point of grace.

Yeah… but you forgot to include a picture of the rest of the bass!

To be honest, I do the same, but all my charts are also noted in Numbers as well so it’s not a biggie. I do check several times. I’ve even run into WL switching songs last minute because someone singing didn’t show up. That’s kinda how we went to the text system!

I used to run BEAD on my Jazz 4 for like a year and a half….

……..and then I bought my first 5-string, in 1997! lol.

My work bought me $200 worth of stuff on Amazon... for hitting a milestone. Gave them links for an Ultra-DI Pro, and P2 IEM amps... stuff I've been meaning purchase so I can have musician friends over to jam, play some worship... or have rehearsals at my house. I just got my order in the mail today. Now I have enough for 4 stereo, and 4 mono personal mixes. Hopefully soon...

Time to do some silent practice with my wife now... Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Had some issues in rehearsal last night. Can only hear out of my left ear IEM. Seems strange.
Things to check,
1. Is the sound panned to one side?
2. Swap out the cable that connects to your IEM cord, the 10 foot one that connects to the IEM unit. (we’ve had a couple of those go out on one side recently)
3. Temporarily switch the IEM cord itself to swap ears. See if it’s your cable or maybe one IEM has gone out.

All of these I speak from personal experience.
