It looks old in a bad way to me. Can we start a 'hate artificial relicing' and a 'hate woosy 50s car pastels' group? Come to think of it, its fine. It just makes my gear look better.
I wonder if the majority of players who dislike tortoise shell PG's are our younger brethren?
This thread stinks like tort reform.
Sorry I was late to the ROTH meetings, as I was scouring the faire countryside burning tort.Don't hate tort, in fact when i buy tort i always insist on 2 pieces. One to crap on and another to cover it up with.
I hate to break it to you man. Everything is backwards.I thought you folks would be interested in a recent makeover I did to my 2011 Fender American Standard Jazz Bass. It came with a three-tone sunburst finish and a tortoiseshell pick guard, the latter of which I was on the fence about. At first, I liked it -- it looked kind of cool in an old-school sort of way. But as I started gigging more with it, I saw how it looked in photos from the gigs: the pick guard stood out as a nasty orangeish/pinkish mess. Ugh. I finally found a black replacement pick guard (no small feat if you're a lefty) and put it on yesterday. I love how it looks now.
Here are the before and after photos. (Sorry for the terrible lighting and quality, I took them from my cell phone in my terribly-lit bedroom.) Enjoy!
