Double Bass THUDDIEST steels?

definitely. i heard the fortes are insanely stiff.
are the dolce's wimpier in volume output? or vol. difference not noticeable vs. the regs? ...
Yes the Fortes are stiff, playing thumb position on them was a nightmare!
On my bass, Dolces are brighter and more sustain, but less punchy than Forte; volume-wise quite identical.
Furthermore, Dolces tuned solo pitch were extremely loud!!
All 3 versions of Jarger are louder(thuddier) than Spiro and Helicore, on my bass.
They bow as smooth as Belcanto, speak louder than Spiro, sound similar to Original Flexocor, cheaper than Helicore. I am wondering why so few orchestra/arco bassists use them.

They usually go in the bin.

Something that may also interest you is to use solo-gauge metal strings at orchestra pitch.
The reduced tension also means darker tone and more thumpiness.
At least for the bottom strings.
Top strings may not get that much thumpy, but it depends on the string brand at lot.
Some will stay bright, others will not.
