Totally amateur recordings thread

Ok, out of the gloom, sorry for being a Donny Downer.

This is a bathroom recording. I used a KSM 137 in the tub and a NT1 on the floor, diagonally from the vocalist. I wanted the natural echo and the AI filters were not doing what I needed so I went old school. I had an old Alesis AM51 as well but it was being temperamental so took it out. I wanted to use two pencil mics but lost my RODES M5s in the black hole that is my above space in the garage.

The recorded voices were then run through the Mac, cleaned, washed, dried and mixed :D It was a thematic deal. I guess you had to be there.

Oh, 1 voice two recordings.

One other note. The background "tweedle" ( yeah I made that up ) is meant to be slightly distracting. Just on the edge of not being there. I took a page from SWV using a flippin' chicken clucking in Can We as a bit of inspiration. Or perhaps Grand Avenues She with the discordant guitar. The entire song arrangement is absolute 100% inspired by Chris Issac's Wicked Game. I love the song and it's not just because the actress in the video looks more than passingly similar to my wife. ( Well, back then if we're honest... we're both near enough to 60 as makes no difference! :D )

The lyrics are old tripe. The eternal search for "The One". Call them a soul mate, if you must. They've been in my binder for a good long while. The date on the yellowed binder page says Eppies 1 a.m. 10/2/86. I used to go there after work and write as I drank an endless $1 cup of coffee.

My anniversary is fast approaching. I've been fortunate enough to have the same lovely lady in my life since 1982.

Sappy old Ghost that I am, I wrote a song for her ( shock! ) I got the bugs mostly worked out but wouldn't mind an outside ear to see if it needs anything ( both in OR out ) I like it, but then, I'm rather invested, aren't I? :D

@Funky Ghost I dig both of them! Good work!
I second this! It took a lot of creativity for you to do that.

My only tiny critique would be that the bass drum in the first version kicks a little too hard in that mix for my tastes, but that's it. And that version sounds like it could be on pop radio right now!

Yeah. I agree with the kick drum assessment. You know, that is a mellower version? My old school butt had an 808 on one of the original mixes. You can take the boy away from Drum and Bass / house ..... well you know ;)

I appreciate the kind words.

I'll remember them after I post an attempt at a co-workers genre. He is the guitarist for The Kennedy Veil. My most sincere hope is it's not "fake". I went in with an honest attempt to do that genre justice. I spent forever on the lyrics, which were WAY harder for me because I don't write like that. At all. Still, it was so technical I absolutely obsessed on the individual parts. Seriously satisfying.

Stay tuned!

Ok, here is the genre busting attempt. Be gentle? The song sure as hell isn't!

I'm an old fart so always appreciate a lyric sheet when it's something like this. I made this damn thing and I can hardly understand a word!!

[Verse]
Lost everything
Why should I care?
World’s brutal
Cold and unfair
Life's torment
Curse of existence
Fury fuels this hellish persistence

[Verse 2] x 2
No mercy! Vengeance and pain
Ashes and fire
All will reign
Cry not
For sorrow I’ll ignore
Despair’s ocean
Burned to the core

[Chorus]
Screams of rage! No escape
No relief
Crushing bones
Break belief
Destruction’s hymn
Life’s decay
In this abyss
I shall stay

[Verse 3]
Fallen
Shattered
No hope found
In darkness
Hate shall resound
No redemption
No sweet lull
Cries of agony
Forever dull

[Bridge]
Soul’s devoured by wrath’s embrace
In torment’s grip
No saving grace
Inferno’s blaze consumes the night
Lost in chaos
Lost to the fight

[Verse 4]
Condemnation! No regret
Fate unyielding
Blood and sweat
No salvation
This I forebear
In this abyss
Pure despair

A new song for my wife and I. As mentioned our anniversary is coming up very soon. 41 years with someone who fills my being with such love.

This one is far more personal as it uses our names and references the weekend trip that "sealed the deal". Capitola Ca. is our home away from home. The song has our mugs :p It was taken in Capitola, you can make out the ocean waves in our sunglasses.

Man . . . Making an R&B and Soul song is HARD. My ear knows what it wants. My fingers know what they want. I just don't know how to ask for what I want. The AI assisted age is in full swing. This old dog, well... I'm tryin' y'all, I'm tryin'. Does anyone else use AI as a tool? It's not like I'm going to "make it" at 59. I'm just having fun and still flexing my creativity. I know it's a sore subject for some but I've embraced it. The lyrics are ALWAYS 100% me. It's just about my favorite thing to do. Some instruments are me. A lot are plug in's. I can't play Sax ... or any brass. Woodwinds either :D FYI.

First crack at Ableton 12. And arrangement view. Not nearly as organized as Logic. Yet:

Listen to It Should Be Shift M by Tool460002 on #SoundCloud
So glad I had my headset on when I clicked play! Super cool man.
