Trace Elliot is stepping up...By going small.....

i was going to get a GK MB200 but no volume knob and using the gain to turn up made the tone less clean, so i passed.

this new TE model DOES have a volume knob, and it seems like it might be even smaller than the MB200, quite a feat. no fx loop, but it does DI out and is small enough for a jacket pocket or gigbag, so a perfect "emergency" head. i can't wait to try one of these out. the sweetwater video made it sound really nice.

I have one of the older TE hybrid amps that I really like: great features, build quality and tone. This might be something that I can just keep in my gig bag for when I'm at work or at a coffee shop on headphones. It should drive my 210 nicely.

I've seen some complaints elsewhere that it's only 200W. People need to keep in mind that it's 200 "Trace watts". That little thing is shockingly loud into a larger 4 ohm cab like a 410.

Understanding that Trace Elliot historically identifies bass amps indicating the number of watts RMS (root mean square), I agree. Peak power would be much higher with a 4 ohm load.

The number of watts RMS should be the industry standard.

too little too late. To me their cabs were most of their sound. I gigged a quatravalve and 1 or 2 1048 cabs for years but it got heavy. I'm not jumping off GK and back to trace just for sentimental reasons. I'm sure they will do well, but they were late to the party on downsizing.

I'll be checking it out when I'm at NAMM in a few days, but I'm not terribly impressed. 200 watts? That doesn't really compete in the bass world of Class D amps.

And I speak as a TE (Peavey era) user.

I said it before and I'll say it again. It is a great time to be a bass player...;)

Always been a Trace fan and this little head would be a great, affordable backup!

I like SpeakOn cables as much as the next guy, but for THIS particular amp, 1/4" completely makes sense. Make it even a little bit thicker and it establishes little to no difference from the other 200W micro-amps out there.

But if it's truly pocketable, then it starts to become really interesting. Hell, at that size, I could fit it into a bag that already holds another bass amp, as a backup.

You actually tried the GK, or passed it up because it looked like it wouldn't work? I just tried it the other day with a bass with noisy passive single coils, and on high gain I couldn't believe what came out of the 4 ohm 410 it was plugged into... rf hum was not a factor, it pumped out way too much beautiful blunt power to care. I just ordered one, hope it sounds as nice into my 8 ohm practice amp cab. This trace will probably be awesome too... I'll bet a whole dollar it uses the same power amp section as the mb200, most amp companies source class D power amp components from a few vendors and make their own preamps for them.
