Would you consider the tone to be similar to a big, clean, full range, recording studio DI type of sound?
I'm thinking that a comparison might be to an SWR amp?

It's actually not that "flat" or clinical. It does have a baked in tone to it. But it's really nice. There's a nice little mid-hump in there you can dial out if you don't like by just turning the lo-mid control to the left slightly.

It's a very clear sound. Crystal clear. I found the "true" tone of all my basses, so clearly. How massively different the jazz is from the Spector, it makes it really easy to find a beautiful sound from your instrument, not from the amplifier. If I plug my jazz's into the Ampeg SCR DI preamp, or the Spectors, they sound like basses plugged into an Ampeg. Same with Ashdown, to a lesser degree and Markbass, again to a lesser degree. But the issue is, companies make big bank by selling "that Markbass sound" or that "pure Ampeg tone".....
It's a personal thing, but that's not what I want from my bass amplifier. I literally want it to amplify my bass... Not my bass plus a tone-print from a manufacturers pre-amp.

Ahh... all this talk about "clear" reminds me of my old Yorkville 400BH. People used to complain about the 400B because of the really dark single 15 it came with. There weren't many people out there running just the head into something a little more open. But yes, clean, clear, and quite revealing.

I like that they changed the voicing control from a simple on-off (on the 400) to a variable control on later designed. The on-off control was a pretty drastic mid scoop + treble boost.

If you like the SB200H & SB500H, you're gonna LOVE/want the SB800H. Same tone stack + a new class-D amp with 800W info 4-ohms (1200 peak)! That means HEADROOM![/

Hold on now!! Traynor is coming out with a SB800H?? I'm in... When is this happening?

Im really interested in the SB200. Going between that and an Aguilar Tone Hammer 350. Cant find any sound clips. If someone could post clips it would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you

Resurrecting this thread a bit to show some love for my recent acquisition! SB500H into a PJB C4! This tiny rig has no business sounding this BIG!

I posted in 2020 that I was interested and never posted that I purchased!
I bought the smaller version though. Still love it. No problem pushing my 12 and 15 Dr Bass cabinets and sound great. I would say the sound was a little less refined than my Mesa Boogie walkabout but very much in that sound pallet. At a fraction of the cost. ($200 shipped). I also picked up the Mesa preamp so best of both worlds! Not pictured is my new Warwick FNA Jazzman!
And sadly the TRB is up for sale...to pay for it.

How much of this guys fat tone is the SB500H amp?

You can do a lot with these heads. I've switched up instruments and am now playing 3 differant Spectors, my BB404 w/aguilars), and a Chapman MLB 1 pro (with SD Blackouts and audere pre). My NS4cr sounds muscular and punchy as anything I have ever owned through it. My Spector Legend with Barts Sounds squanky and cool, my BB is old school funk and my Chappy sounds as close to my old Warwick Thumb as can be. It gives you what you give it. No tubes but you wouldn't really know it. The only thing I really ever tweek is my cord. Putting my passive basses in the passive jack and my actives in the active. Btw the fan is dead silent on mine. I tried the Elf and wow that thing is noisey!
(My third Spector, an NS2a, is a work in progress right now )

I love my Small Block 500 as well. I'm really glad with the fact that the store I work at sells their gear so I get employee discount lol.

I love the fact that it fits in a laptop briefcase with its cables and my ring-binder songbook.

Vastly different than the days I lugged around my 65-pound Ampeg V4B
