Can I join?

Can I be member #3?

Dean Rhapsody 12 string in translucent black.

Had it for a couple of months, often playing without guitarists, fills those sonic spaces gooooood:cool: :bassist: I actually play it for a lot more of the songs we do than I thought I would be able to. Complements my other basses well.

I don't have any sound clips of my own sorry, (maybe I should get around to making some, but things are a bit crazy at the moment).

Listening to some Pearl Jam's Jeremy (that intro is classic 12-string bass), earlier King's X (although dUg plays through a rig the size of several large refridgerators) or Cheap Trick is the best I can suggest.

As for the POG vs. multistring bass debate, I think it depends on what you're after... I used to use a Boss OC2 octaver and play at the 12th fret for some tunes in a trio context, which really did fill out the sound, it's a totally valid thing to do. And the POG and HOG are so much more versatile than that, let you play normally with an octave up, do organ-style bass sounds, etc. But for living, breathing, left-hand-strengthening goodness, natural chorusing and that certain analog something that digital electronics especially pitch-shifting just can't get, the genuine article can't be beat :D
I just love my 12. It's unique (all the musicians in the audience come up and want to see what on earth it is you're playing!), sounds great, and fills a lot of space. Modern 12's (including my Dean) tend to have wider spacing than the older Hamers (but the hamers are beautiful as you can see above!) so you can play fingerstyle (I find pick easier on a 12 even though I rarely use a pick on single course basses) and even slap/pop.

There are times when a 12ver is really not appropriate, but I have my 5 string and my fretless for those times.

I shuld be removed from this group, I have my 12 string strung up as an 8 string.

The 12 strings were overwhelming for me, I tried to get used to it but I couldn't. So I set it up as an 8 string and its perfect for me now. I'm gonna permanently convert it to an 8 string (by cuttin off half the headstock and gettin a new nut made.) Can't possibly ruin the resale value considerin' its a cheap Galveston and it'd most likely eliminate the neck-dive problem.

Matrok,
I haven't played an asian CH12 (production recently shifted from Korea to China IIRC) but I have played a US Hamer Chaparral 12, and the string spacing was significantly narrower than on my Dean or a Galveston I also tried.

For me, it was harder on the Hamer to slap/pop and play fingerstyle, but most of the time I use a pick on my 12ver, so I don't know how much it would actually practically affect me... But I do like the little bit of extra room on the wider necks of the Dean.

Opas, I've got no experience with the October brand. I'd suggest looking at 12stringbass.com and/or 12stringbass.net for information.

Looks like I found an old thread. Am I too late to join the club?

Here's my old 12ver. It's a Carlo Robelli made for Sam Ash. I've had her about a year and a half. Supposedly from the sam e factory as the Galveston's, but with a quilted top.

And just today, I got this one in the mail.

It's an older MIK version.

They're both a little different, but kinda cool.

I couldn't find a club for this so I decided to make one. I'll post my former 12 string later.

People should be able to find this by typing in "Twelve String" or "12 String"
