I don't have any sound clips of my own sorry, (maybe I should get around to making some, but things are a bit crazy at the moment).
Listening to some Pearl Jam's Jeremy (that intro is classic 12-string bass), earlier King's X (although dUg plays through a rig the size of several large refridgerators) or Cheap Trick is the best I can suggest.
As for the POG vs. multistring bass debate, I think it depends on what you're after... I used to use a Boss OC2 octaver and play at the 12th fret for some tunes in a trio context, which really did fill out the sound, it's a totally valid thing to do. And the POG and HOG are so much more versatile than that, let you play normally with an octave up, do organ-style bass sounds, etc. But for living, breathing, left-hand-strengthening goodness, natural chorusing and that certain analog something that digital electronics especially pitch-shifting just can't get, the genuine article can't be beat
I just love my 12. It's unique (all the musicians in the audience come up and want to see what on earth it is you're playing!), sounds great, and fills a lot of space. Modern 12's (including my Dean) tend to have wider spacing than the older Hamers (but the hamers are
beautiful as you can see above!) so you can play fingerstyle (I find pick easier on a 12 even though I rarely use a pick on single course basses) and even slap/pop.
There are times when a 12ver is really
not appropriate, but I have my 5 string and my fretless for those times.
