World Cup qualifying starts Thursday evening against Mexico, in Cary, NC. (The WC itself will be in France next summer.) The match will be televised on Fox Sports 2 at 7:30 pm EDT.

Any other USWNT fans out there in TB Land? I'm a huge fan myself, and spent some serious bucks for choice seats for this match (plus a hotel room) -- my first time seeing them play live. Can't wait!

Haha -- I forgot about that one. Believe it or not, I actually did a search before I started this thread to see if there was an existing thread I could post to, but I didn't see that one from five years ago.

Anyway, five years is a long time, and World Cup qualifying starts tomorrow, so.... Does anybody out there care?

In case anybody has any interest (apparently not so much).... The U.S. and Canada both skated through the group round and semis, and now they will meet in the CONCACAF finals: Wednesday night, 8:00 EDT, on FoxSports 1 or FoxSports 2 (depending on baseball schedule). This should be a great match between two of the world's best teams. If you're skeptical about women's soccer, this one might make a convert out of you.

I'm gonna give this one more try to see if there is any interest. The World Cup started today (in France) and continues for the next month. Every match of the tournament will be broadcast live by Fox: almost half of them on the Fox broadcast network and the rest mostly on the cable channel Fox Sports 1. The U.S. plays their first match on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. against Thailand. Anybody?

Yeah, I'll watch any US games that are on-air if I can. Probably some others as well.

Every match of the tournament is being broadcast live by one or another of the Fox channels. Almost half will be on the main Fox broadcast channel, and almost all of the rest will be on the Fox Sports 1 (FS1) cable channel. Here's the broadcast schedule for the group stage:

Other teams worth watching if you have a chance are Germany, France, England, Canada, Australia, and Japan. Plus maybe the Netherlands. This will be by far the most competitive WWC ever, and there are a lot of great teams with legit chances of winning it all.

I got rid of cable and/or satellite TV several years ago and won't pay for streaming, so it's Fox on-air or nothing for me. I've followed the women's game for as long as there's been a World Cup for them. It's great to see the overall play level getting better, for sure.

USWNT vs. Thailand today! Broadcast/pregame starts at 2:00 (EDT) with kickoff at 3:00, on Fox broadcast channel.

The Chile-Sweden match at noon (on FS1) is between the other two teams in the USWNT's group -- i.e., their next two opponents. (Sweden was the team that knocked the USA out of the Olympics in a penalty shoot-out, so there will be a score to settle.)

I thought I might find some FIFA Women’s World Cup and USWNT fans in here! My daughters both play, and we’re fans of the U.S. team, especially my younger one.

So...we brought her to France and just got back from the U.S. v. Thailand match in Reims! As you all know by now, it was an overwhelming U.S. victory, which was an impressive sight. I felt bad for the Thai players and fans, some of whom drummed and chanted for the entire game! Well done. And of course the stadium was packed with U.S. fans, which made for a great atmosphere.

My daughter and I also saw the Argentina v. Japan match yesterday. I love the Japanese team, and was disappointed they couldn’t score despite total dominance in possession. I would like to see a U.S. v. Japan match.

After getting home in a couple of days, I’ll see as many games as I can.

Thailand got better results in 2015 - they ended up 3rd in their group beating out Ivory Coast, but didn't make it to the knockout stage. They had respectable losses to Norway and Sweden, both 4-0. Ecuador and Ivory Coast were the only two teams that looked like they didn't belong in 2015.

Not sure if this is a sign that Thailand has regressed or the USWNT is really that good.

The new teams this year - Chile, South Africa, Jamaica and Scotland - had respectable initial outings.

There's been a lot of talk in recent years about how much better the women's game has been getting overall, and how the gap between the top teams and the rest has gotten smaller. I think that's true in the sense that there are generally more strong teams and fewer weak teams than in years past, but that US-Thailand match served as an unfortunate reminder that there are still teams whose countries do no provide the resources necessary for their teams to be competitive at the WC level.

That said, it's great to see how most of lower-ranked teams have been able to hold their own against much stronger squads and earn respectable results, like those you mentioned, and that the US-Thailand result was clearly an outlier rather than the norm.

Just want to toss in the point that while Alex Morgan's five goals (deservedly) has gotten a lot of press, she also had three assists -- a fact typically relegated to footnotes. Maybe it's just my bass-player mentality, but I really wish assists got as much attention and credit as goals scored.

Bass might have something to do with this - I agree 100%. Especially when the pass is prettier than the goal.
