Yeah they are out of school for "safety" reasons and here's what it looks like outside. Mostly sunny and not a drop of anything in sight.

Oh wait... I think that leaf just turned over in the breeze!!!! Aaaaaaaaaah! The children!!!!! Somebody save the children!!!!!!

Read on the news that they were expecting snow and ice in NC, so you must be wrong. ;) I mean, how would you know by just living there. The weather prognosticators have computer models, satellites and all sorts of expensive gizmos.

Yeah all I have is a 46 year old go-outside-and-look-up machine. ;)

My nephew just texted me from Virginia Beach and said the forecast is snow accumulating 5 to 8 inches from tonight to tomorrow. He said he went to the store and the shelves are bare.

So you had to top my -26 did you? Well I have my passport, and a friend I haven't seen in some time who lives in Winnipeg, so I may have to come up and kick your ass.

Come on up...I'll attempt to distract you from beating me senseless by handing you a beer. A real Canadian beer...not that watered down US swill. :D

After you've sobered up, I'll even be nice enough to jump start your car before you leave...

Snows have come a long way from the big lug studded tires that we ran in the 80's. Most snows today are as quiet or quieter than an all season tire because of the tread design and softer rubber compound. Also, with modern tire technology, studs are a thing of the past.

Cost wise, to me a snow tire (where I live at least) is a non negotiable requirement. Myself, my wife and my kids have snows at all four corners of our cars.

For my plow truck, I run a tall & narrow mud tire.
I've been using winter tires for decades. The only additional cost is the cheap steel rims for mounting them...when the winters are being used, the no-season tires are not being used and don't wear.
