Users of Bass course Talkingbass or others?

I signed up for lessons on another site but had some technical issues, so it wouldn’t work. In looking for something else I came across TalkingBass.net. There are some threads here about it, but they are several years old, so I thought I’d start a new one.

If anyone here has used it, I’d appreciate hearing your comments.

Also, when I posted in the introduction forum there it used my real name instead of user name. So I deleted it. I noticed that if I order anything it wants my address. Will they make that public also?

I asked this question on the “contact” part of their site a couple of days ago but haven’t got a response yet.

The other option I’m looking at is Fender Play. But it doesn’t have very good reviews.

I’d appreciate any other options.

I’m an old guy that is giving this a try to keep my mind working. I have zero guitar experience. I recently purchased a Squier Classic Vibe '70s Precision Bass and a Fender Rumble 100 Amp. So, I think I have what I need equipment wise.

Thanks in advance.

I bought courses at talkingbass.net and I’m more than happy with them. I’m currently looking to see what will be my next course there.

He breaks things down quite nicely and present everything in small easily understood steps.

I don’t get spammed for additional purchases in my email very often. one email every couple of weeks at the most.

All said I’m a happy customer and I probably will be for some time.

I am in the same boat. I started with in person instruction on and off.. Since then I have purchased a few lessons from a couple of the u tube teachers. They help but I would like to find an in person instructor again that would help at my current level. I also prefer every other week or once a month as weekly lessons for half hour don't seem to work for me. Takes a little longer to soak in!
Also there is a lot of talent on this site from playing to set up and more. A great resource.
Best of luck with your journey, a lot of patients and small steps.

Take a look at Dan Hawkins. I haven't done any of his courses but I have worked through some of the exercises in his free lessons. He has a pretty good mix of theory and practical playing in my opinion.

Dan Hawkins
Dan is a good teacher and I enjoy his videos very much. Music Theory For Bass Players - Online Bass Courses

Same goes for Rich Brown but he offers no courses and is somewhat spotty at updates as he seems a very active player Rich Brown - The Brown'stone

Debatable how good they are for beginners tho.
What works for one person might not for another :)

Dan also has a beginner class. I have a couple of his genre-specific courses and they're pretty good if a little short.

Another recommendation for the absolute beginner is BassBuzz. Josh is entertaining, and gets you playing practical lines immediately.

I have most of Mark's courses and they're consistently great--thorough if a little academic. Definitely recommended to fill in your theory and reading knowledge down the line

I went through Fender Play for acoustic guitar and checked out bass, and I don't recommend either one haha

Strong recommendation for this guy, Tom Kenrick: FreeBassTranscriptions.com - Free Bass Transcriptions

He's an outstanding bass player and an outstanding teacher. I've worked with him via zoom every other week for a while. Wow, has my knowledge, skills and abilities improved dramatically. A great instructor who really knows the bass and can teach it well.

I learned to read bass clef with the main Talkingbass.net reading course during the Great Quarantine. Like so many others I was just sitting around. I decided to invest a few dollars, and a lot of time. Need to have the discipline to practice each lesson step by step on a daily basis. How far you take it is up to the individual.
At this point I am out of practice in terms of the reading but the course is really excellent. Constant reading practice is the key.

The courses are downloadable and easy to print. Included are audio files for every measure you will play during the course. I highly recommend the Talkingbass.net No fat or gristle. You will get what you pay for if you really want to learn.

Cant recommend Talkingbass strongly enough. Ive completed several of the courses and they were worth every penny. Most recently have been working through SImple Steps to Walking Bass, Walk that Bass vol 1, and Groove Trainer Vol 2. Chord Tones essentials is great as well and provides a nice foundation for about everything else.

They are good, really good. He's done a few transcriptions for me that I couldn't figure out and they were dead-on accurate. I can't say enough about Tom. He is a real gem and has that internalized, British sense of doing things right and doing them well. Plus, he is generous and kind - qualities I like in a person - and has a good sense of humor, too. We laugh a lot during sessions. I've found it's actually fun to learn bass as his student. It makes the learning so much easier.
