VAS?

Anybody else suffer from VAS or Variant Acquisition Syndrome? I initially planned on one Rat for my board, and started small with a Proco. Now I have the Landphil, Volt Thrower, Plague Rat, Traitor and the Iron Pig V2. And I still look for more!! ***!!!!

I'm also obsessed with HM-2's and love the slight differences between my Left Hand Wrath Deluxe, Throat Locust and of course my trusty and mint in box MIJ HM-2.

Anybody else have any particular pedal you buy variants of obsessively? And if so, why do you do it? I need some moral support here!

For me it's muffs. I have had many but I'm down to 3 right now which means I can get more!!!

I'm a compressor and preamp gatherer.

No two sound (or in the case of compressors work) exactly alike. And I appreciate the subtle, and sometimes not so subtle, variety of tones you can coax out of different models.

So you're not alone.

Now how about you coming down off that ledge? People here care about you. ;):laugh:

Awesome man. I'm not as big into muffs as you are (well, the pedal variety anyway :D) but I's have's me some goodun's. I got the standard Green Russian and a beautiful one made in a huge enclosure by Built By Ryan that has tons of clipping options and mid knobs etc. Just an absolute beast that one it. Those two cover my Muff needs. I'm really a RAT guy at heart. Just love the grind. And ironically enough, I love my rats at very low gain. Got a Plague Rat with blend yesterday that just slays!

I have and absolutely love a cat tail.
Eventual I'll have a blower box when I finally get it back from Matt at idiotbox from getting repaired.
One day I would like to try a volt thrower that has germanium option.

I love my Cat Tail too. It has what all other RV's (Rat Variant't) don't, and that is a very mid forward grind. Out of all my RV's, the CT and the Plague Rat sound most similar. And even without a blend, the CT is very respectably in the low end department compared to the PR, which does have a blend.

I wish I could afford a Demon Lung today! I snagged a Hail Satan for $100 on New Year's Day. Not so great on bass but awesome on guitar.

Too bad man about not being able to get the DL. I think it's going to be killer. I'll post about it when it comes in. I hear you about the Satan. I'm don't have VAS on muffs so I leave those alone.

I did buy two Rats, just to see if the LM-308 opamp actually made a difference. The two pedals sounded SLIIIIIGHTLY different at the same settings, but with only the tiniest of tweaking, I could easily lose track of which one I was using as I clicked between them.

I do a little. At one point I went on a fuzz jag to find "the one." I ended up with a supercollider, wizard fuzz, TAFM, black russian muff, PPB, and hail satan deluxe. I didn't like any of them. I have a Grey Stache now that may get more use on guitar than bass.
I tried 2 HM2 versions, 3 Rat versions, 2 tube screamers, and 2 OCDs.
But only one modulation.
So I guess I have it.
I end up selling the extras.
