It seems that perhaps the Search features are best for finding posts to threads just in the DB realm. I just query the main DB area and sort by date. It brings up all new DB thread posts. Can also collapse them into the parent thread...

The URL to accomplish this search is:

https://www.talkbass.com/search/1/?q=*&t=post&c[child_nodes]=1&c[nodes][0]=245&o=date&g=1

And, if you store that URL as a bookmark and use that bookmark to start TB/DB, you'll get only DB related threads and posts to review.

NOTE:: This URL also collapses new posts into their parent threads, but when in the thread, you can click on "Jump to latest" to get to those newest posts.

To me, this is a realistic solution. I hope it helps someone else too. If anyone comes up with better solutions, please share them.

* Note to Mods: I'm posting this in the Basses [DB] section hoping to be more visible and helpful there. If you think another location will be seen as much, feel free to move this thread.

** Relative to later posts, I've changed the original URL "search/10755/" argument to "search/1/" for testing. Seems to work as a bookmark, but doesn't establish date/time properly if just clicking on the URL in the OP.

I’ll also note that when I filter for DB in the Hot tab nothing shows up. I suspect the “hotness” is determined on a site-wide basis and because there is much more electric side usage, we DB players are not ever hot. 😢

The part of the URL that I'm not sure about is the "search/10755/" argument. I had thought perhaps that was a time/date related argument, like the number of seconds since midnight or some other time related milestone. But with further testing I'm pretty sure it relates to an instance number or something like that.

The date/time anomaly that I'm seeing is if I login with the URL it provides up-to-date posts to review. If I just click on the URL in my OP, it provides posts as of approximately when I originally created the OP. So something is keeping track of time in the URL and I'm not sure what that is yet.

It’s not sure that’s the case - I can filter for DB in the Hot tab and the Threads tab, but not in the Latest Posts tab.
I think we're talking about two different things. You don't need to go to any tab at all. Just go to the main page, and on the right side it says "Filter." Click the box under it that says "Double Bass," and you're there.

I just go to the Forums drop down, select Forum list, and then go down into the general DB forums like on the prior version of the site.

And then just look at each thread individually like before.

I may be not seeing something, but when I do that I see only a few posts for today, and then it goes into yesterday's activity. Seems incomplete.

Good observation. I only would have known you were right by clicking your link in the O.P. I only see 4 threads there with activity from today before it goes into yesterday's activity. I assumed it would all be there. It should all be there, right? There may still be a bug in the system, because it didn't work at all for me before today.

It's even easier than that if you only want to see latest DB posts. Go to "New Posts", then on the RH side there is a button for "Filters". Select the DB forum, the scroll down and click "Save". Now when I click on New Posts, I only see new posts from the DB forum (Plus the other moderator/admin forums I also selected because of my gig here).

This was how I had "New Posts" set up before I came here, and it works basically the same. If I want to see the whole forum and what's literally the latest things posted, then I can click on the "Hot" link for that.

Last, if you want your alerts and inbox for PMs to look a lot more like the previous version, go to the style chooser and select "Talkbass XF Master" as your style. That helped a lot with the adjustment for me.

Go to "New Posts", then on the RH side there is a button for "Filters". Select the DB forum, the scroll down and click "Save".
When I go to New Posts and click on Filters, I only get:
  • Unread threads
  • Watched content
  • Threads in which you've participated
  • Threads you've started
  • Unanswered threads
  • Save as defaultThese filters will be used by default whenever you return.
No DB option. Am I missing something?

Hi. The way I've done it is go to Threads, select Double Bass and Unread Content in the filters, choose “last post date” and descending order,” save, and you got it. Then I bookmarked that page, and I can get to it with one click. ...
Brent, when I look at the DB forum group through this Threads process, it's missing some newer posts that show up in the Search process (by URL bookmark). I'm not necessarily saying either is right 100% of the time, but that there are noticeable differences...

I think those differences may illustrate that the forum system(s) are still maturing, as it does look like the intent of the Threads process is to show everything. I'm aware of two down times today, one full and one partial, which is actually good considering the massive scope of the upgrade. It's actually a brand new system with all of our old data, and there are bound to be growing pains.

I'd suggest that at this time double checking for new posts with other processes or methods might be the only way to know for sure if we're getting to see every post that is new or recent.

EDIT: As an example, @JBarz has just posted about his new Pfretz aluminum double bass in the Aluminum Double Bass Club thread and I have congratulated him, and neither of these posts are currently showing up with any lookup method. I just got a notification, which is how I found out about it It probably takes time to create the necessary indexes for any of the lookup processes to work.

I finally found the helpful post by another user who showed a bunch of folks - myself included - how to get the "new posts" link on the new software to behave like it did before. Only this time around, I think it's even better. Here's the link: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/fo...sts-by-forums-subforums.1656167/post-28555282

And here's a screenshot:

I actually think this workflow is better because on the old software, there was this giant buried submenu called something like "exclude forums from New Posts" where you had to select every forum that you don't want to appear in your search. In this version, you are selecting all the forums that you do want to watch and receive results from, which is a lot more logical. Yes, you have to take 5-10 minutes to go to each forum one by one and announce your intention to "watch" them, but once you have done that you can save the results and Bob's yer uncle.

Ahhhh, I had found and done the Forum List / Watch selection, but I didn't put it together with the Watched content / saved filter setting. This is excellent.

THANK YOU!!!

Caveat.... The "bookmarked" Search function still shows more or at least different recent threads for me. Double checking my "Forum List / Watch" selections, maybe I missed something there. What I am finding is that the Watch'ed forums are updated fast, maybe even immediately., while the "bookmarked" Search function does not update immediately, it may be dependent on index creation.

New Posts has a number of other advantages... In a thread, it automatically goes to the last post there. You can easily reply to a post if desired. You can create a new thread more easily than when perusing through the Search engine.

I've double checked my Forum list / Watch selections, they are as correct as I cam make them. So again, differences in resulting threads with different tools may just be a function of maturity of the database and timing with things like index creation. It seems pretty clear there are a number of ways to lookup new posts in threads, and they're probably all supposed to work correctly. If there's a question about not seeing the newest posts, it's probably a good idea to try multiple methods to find them for a while. It may just take time, we're only at day 3 now.

FWIW, when I was still working in my career as a systems analyst for a prominent healthcare provider, creating new indexes on a large database could take a very long time.

I must have stumbled on to the solution by accident. From the home page I clicked on Threads. From the right side filter list I clicked on DB. Farther down the list I clicked on All. Then I clicked save. Then I selected Card View, and Set As Default.

Now when I visit the site (logged in) I see a list of all of the DB threads, including For Sale, etc.
