I've noticed this growing trend amongst my friends, coworkers, and strangers in public. Lots of smart or essential or otherwise specially ionized water with specific pH levels are becoming very common. Do any of you guys make an effort to buy this stuff instead of regular water, whether bottled or from the tap at home? This isn't a tap water vs bottled question but specifically this popular new specialized water that lots of people are drinking vs just water. This one (for about $3 a bottle) seem to be the most popular right now:

Considering how much of a scam the bottled water industry is, I'd be very surprised if that water was any different than "regular" bottled water.
That's definitely possible but I'm fine with tentatively accepting these water company's claims about their pH levels and such. I'm more curious how many of us think it's worth the expense. Some very intelligent people I know are totally sold on the idea that not only is this stuff good for you, but regular water is bad for you.

life's too short to buy alkaline water. my home water has a PH of 7.1 or higher on any given day, often over 8 and it's freeish. when i buy a bottle of water, it's because it tastes good. not sure if pellegrino or some of my other faves falls under fancy or non-fancy, so i didn't vote.

editing this to mention that although i haven't seen proof that high alkaline water is good for you, you can buy a home filter that gets rid of chlorine AND raises your water PH for the cost of a few of those bottles of high end alkaline water.

besides, there's no carrots on the poll

Back in the 80s, people used to put ionizers in their home. The only reason I know this is because I used to do home mechanical work. I had to pull a lot out, most hadn't been used in ages. Same silly train, in my opinion. I will be drinking my "nutrient enriched" tap water, fluoride and all.

No fancy water for me. I drink filtered water from my refrigerator's water dispenser. That's good enough for me. The tap water in my area tastes terrible, but in areas with good tap water, I have no problem drinking it. When I need bottled water, I just buy a case from Costco.

i'm not sure where all of my mexican beers are bottled, but that's my main source of water. i'm also not sure of the ph of tecate or dos equis. i'm guessing that pacifico and modelo are the healthiest. only time can tell.

wish me luck....thanks.

Being a generally snarky individual, I fwel I need to qualify the following. This is not snark. It is a genuine curiosity. I have no opinion good or bad regarding your question and need more info bedorw forming one.

What is the supposed advantage and/or benefit to drinking higher pH water?

(Ironically, lots of healthy older people I know do a shot or two of Bragg's vinegar every day because the acidity is supposed to do.... good.... stuff.....again, what the benefits are I have no idea. I go in stages of doing it myself but don't notice any real benefits. All I know is that they are old and healthy.:D)

when the bottles I filled at home run out I drink bottled water because my tongue is too fancy for chlorine, and we've got lots of chlorine in our public systems here.

I first heard of the ph waters from an ex after her fourth or fifth visit with her spirit guide or whatever. I'm proud of the girl that she went on and got certified as a dharma yoga instructor, but she came home with a lot of quarter-baked ideas like that and drinking the juice of two weeks' worth of veggies twice a day, something about gluten being bad for your spiritual growth, a few others... "hon, your students don't care, they just want you to make them sweat enough to get sexy looking."

Really hope a chemist on the board here says that it is actually kinda good for some bodies depending on diet or something. That would be entertainment.

Just add soap to your tap water and you'll have the same thing, hehe;) BTW, I'm a Chemist for the last 26+ years. There are many and much "worse" things in most of today's drinking water (and "bottled water") such as endocrine disrupters and phthalates, I won't go there, hehehe.

Regardless of the pH that goes down your throat, it changes the moment it hits your stomach. If there is any benefit to pH balance in your body, you would get better results by taking any off the shelf acid reducer.

I worked on a job site where we drank our own recycled water.
It was safer than the ground water & had a high pH.
I suffered from acid reflux often in the Land of Smiles, due to the spiciness of my diet.
During this time, drinking high pH water, I didn't.
(and I continued eating spicy food)

I forgot to mention that for this particular job we were there non-stop, no going home.
So every bit of water I drank was recycled from some other process.

Oh dear, I just realized how long ago that was:

Can you point to any studies or papers online for that? (If you know of some that are easy to find. Otherwise I'll look myself)
I'd like to show it to some poeple.
