I drink the water that comes out of the tap. Don't know what the ph value is - and don't care. With the exception of stuff like Perrier, all bottled water, to me, tastes like the inside of a tin can; metallic, bitter, and unpleasant. If you like it; well, then - drink up. Feel free to drink my share, too...

Can you point to any studies or papers online for that? (If you know of some that are easy to find. Otherwise I'll look myself)
I'd like to show it to some poeple.

Not off hand, sorry! I have a building full of info on drinking water's (from all 51 states (Porto-Rico)) but nothing for the body:(, the EPA determines whats good or bad and how much of contaminants are "tolerable".

But really just think about your tummy, the same acids in there will over power any "basic" (pH>7) liquids. The stomach acids would have to be shut off in order for that not to happen. Prevacid does just that (to a point).

Considering how much of a scam the bottled water industry is, I'd be very surprised if that water was any different than "regular" bottled water.

If you want to amuse yourself in the store, take a look at the labels on foo-foo water. You'll find that a lot of it says something similar to this in small letters: "Source: Ozonated San Antonio municipal water supply."

I don't know much about alkaline water, but distilled water will be slightly acidic from the CO2 in the air.
Several years ago, we were warned about drinking deionized water at work. Then at at different location we were provided with di water in place of bottled water.
If you read the label on bottled water, there is usually some minerals added for taste.
Go figure

Another reason Deionized water isnt good to drink as it will "leach" out the minerals in your body.

Most bottled water is from regular municipalities such as those that don't "treat" the water. Small municipalities can "shock" the systems only a few times a year.

In the last year, they built a bottled water bottling plant in my town. They bottle the same water that comes out of my tap and sell it with different labels on it to 7-11, Wal-Mart, and God only knows who else.

Let's just say that bottled water is a joke. Other than the convenience factor of having it with you while you're out and about, it's not worth much. And, no I wouldn't bother with the fancy stuff. That's just dumb. IMHO of course.

To each his own, of course. But, even $3 is about 11% of my monthly water bill; filling a container is worth the few seconds it takes (and, I tend to do 3 or 4 at a time) for me. I'm already paying for the stuff; why pay for it twice? And, even Costco's bottled water taste like a tin can. Which, I'm convinced, is the result of the water being run through a reverse osmosis machine. When I was in the military, and we were in the field, the water from our portable "Erdlater"- which is filter/reverse osmosis machine - tasted just like the bottled stuff...nasty. But, at least it wouldn't kill ya...

I've noticed this growing trend amongst my friends, coworkers, and strangers in public. Lots of smart or essential or otherwise specially ionized water with specific pH levels are becoming very common. Do any of you guys make an effort to buy this stuff instead of regular water, whether bottled or from the tap at home? This isn't a tap water vs bottled question but specifically this popular new specialized water that lots of people are drinking vs just water. This one (for about $3 a bottle) seem to be the most popular right now:

The human body requires the pH to be in a relatively narrow range for all your proton pumps and such to work properly. There are a number of mechanisms for keeping that pH right where it needs to be. Drinking nonsense alkaline water will have no effect on your physiology.
