Weird Guitar Center Experience (Warning Thread)

Anything could get worse

Org, do you go through your local store(s), or 800#, or even online, yourself? Maybe, it doesn't matter... I'm thinking more control would be in your hands, than dealing with a store, and I'm pretty sure they can still find you a discount... GAS should not include a methane aftertaste, especially when the appetizers haven't even arrived, yet.

Yesterday I ordered a used tube amp that was pretty well under priced. I got a confirmation email. An hour or so later, I got another email that it was "back ordered."

These seem to be par-for-the-course shenanigans with GC used gear. But I never worry about getting my money back, and I've also never had trouble with a return or exchange, so I take it in stride. It won't stop me from shopping there.

I ordered a used pedal on GC.com overnight for in-store pickup so I could grab it really quick while I was in the area. By 2 PM the next day I still hadn't gotten my email saying it was ready for pickup, so I just went anyway. Sure enough, it was still sitting in the case, and the employees had no idea it was even sold.

Come to think of it, one time I bought a used item that was physically in stock, but the computer said it was out of stock. The employee got a manager to push it through anyway. Maybe that's what happened to the OP and all of the people that have mysteriously canceled GC orders.

I'm not quite sure what the warning is. You got your bass from another store? So we're being warned against this one store? What is the one store? Or are we being warned against Guitar Center? Where did you get your bass?

If your warning is that sometimes sales don't work out on the GC used site, that is known. It seems that most of the time sales work out no problem, but the problems stick out like a sore thumb. Those are the ones that get the threads.

Yeah, I think with all the threads it's now common knowledge that you haven't really bought something used at GC until you have it in your hands.

The warning is don't purchase the bass I linked to

A few months ago, I ordered a T.E. head and got confirmation notice, two days later cancellation order due to already sold. Called up and got a V Type head with free shipping. I think it all depends on the luck of the draw when you call up. Some people are good, some are just not.

Often the computer and reality don't coincide. I had a contractor go to Home Depot to pick up a particular sink to be installed. Sorry, it's out of stock. They supposedly ordered it, second time he goes, still out of stock. This time he walks over to the aisle where the sinks are on display - they had three of them sitting on the shelf in their boxes. Despite the computer inventory system saying there were none and that they were backordered.

So this could be related to some of the incidents related here.

Same thing happened to me on a used SKB pedalboard. I called them and asked how a used item can be on back order, the customer services guy laughed and gave me a new one for the same price. Needless to say, I was quite pleased.
