Just came across this weirdly shaped bass online. I saw a pic of Jaco playing one which peaked my interest all of a sudden. Can someone tell me more about these basses? Like who played them and if they still produce them. I can't believe in all my years I'm just discovering this now...

Thanks!

Jaco Pastorius played these when he had an endorsement with them.

Jerry Peek - always wondered where such a pioneer in bass playing went. A great mystery in the "where are they now?" category. As an impressionable young teen beginner when that album came out, I sat down and did my best to learn his lines and solos. I just couldn't stop being completely mesmerized by the playing and the sound of the Guild Pilot and his technique, and it still blows me away to this day. Nope. Still haven't completely mastered his solos, but what I did gain in trying is immense. He was in my top 10 most influential players at the time, and still, hasn't slipped much since.
Excellent bass, incredible player. Last I read of him was an ad in the back of Bass Player magazine offering lessons back in the late 80's.
Cannot imagine what he's doing now, and what his playing would be evolved to.

Jerry Peek played one in the Steve Morse Band. I've played one in a music store and they're really nice basses. (Fast forward to 2:15 for a cool bass solo.)

Holy smokes... what a player

Playing with Steve Morse, better bring your A game.
