I see them pop up now and then on the local classifieds for about $300, but can’t bring myself to get one.

They’ve always look like if someone took their design inspiration from a cartoon ghost, to me.
 
It's been a long time, but I believe there were two versions: the Pilot 602 and 604, one had the normal-ish looking headstock as see on page one; the other had the requisite and ubiquitous '80s-style point angular down-leaning one. Like every Kramer had back in the day.

Not sure if there were other differences...possibly a bolt-on vs thru-neck.

Just came across this weirdly shaped bass online. I saw a pic of Jaco playing one which peaked my interest all of a sudden. Can someone tell me more about these basses? Like who played them and if they still produce them. I can't believe in all my years I'm just discovering this now...

Guild Pilot bass....great bass! they are starting to pull some decent money these days, DeArmond also made a decent copy of the pilot as well.
