What clip on tuners are you using?

There’s a Snark clipped to the music stand that I use for practicing and I keep a Peterson in my gig bag (a gift from my wife).

I have one of those tiny D’Addarios on each of my upright basses.

On a shelf above my workbench I have an old-fashioned Peterson strobe tuner. I usually just plug electric instruments straight into it but I also have a clip-on for it that I can use for acoustic instruments and a little, square microphone that I think actually came with it.

Overall, they’re all pretty accurate. The snark sometimes has trouble with low Bs and even an occasional low E. The D’Addarios do fine on my old Kay uprights and the Petersons - both the antique and the modern headstock tuner - are top shelf. Extremely accurate.

I’ve used a bunch, but you’ll want to check them against a good plug-in tuner. I’ve had several clip-ons that were pretty inaccurate when compared to a good (Peterson StrobePlus HD) tuner, and I’d never use a clip-on for a setup.
That said, I’ve found the Peterson clip-on to be the most consistently accurate of the ones I’ve tried…

I have two, I don't even know what brand they are, they're red. Maybe Snark? :shrugs:

Coincidentally, I pulled one of my Korg electronic tuners out at a jam session last night and was reminded of how long it had been since I'd used an electronic tuner...but I feel like it was more accurate than the clip-on units. Just not as convenient.

i have a rechargeable snark, it's mostly a backup or just in case type of thing. normally i use a korg pitchblack pedal. i like the snark's screen, it's big, bright and easy to read. the sharp and flat marks are a different color which i like, the contrast is very nice, and the screen isn't overly crowded either

D'Addario Eclipse, Cello and Bass model:

I don't know whether there's a functional difference between this and the standard Eclipse. The model numbers are almost the same. The Eclipse "headstock tuner" variant can be bought in different case colors (PW-CT-17xx with xx denoting case color).

They are inexpensive enough that I might get a second one, for sheer convenience.

I know the Eclipse tuner is not quite as accurate as my Sabine ST-1100. The latter has a narrower "in tune" window. But, it doesn't really matter, for practice sessions.

For a clip mount tuner it's either Peterson Stroboclip or TC Electronics Unitune for me, though my absolute favorite on stage remains the tuner in my Shure wireless receivers.
We must share a brain. Unitune for the win. Polytune is great for guitars but the Uni is one for bass. Lots cheaper too. My Shure GLXD+ wireless is the primary on stage. I use the UniTune backstage before going on. My favorite "bench" tuner for setups and string changes is the Peterson StroboStomp LE.

Clip ons are convenient for playing at home. I have one for just about every instrument, and the brands I keep coming back to are D'Adario and Snark. What are you using and how do you like 'em?
Unplugged/direct/at home, a Snark for its versatility in positioning with a variety of headstock configurations, both bass and guitar. I’m well aware of the fragility of the ball end situation, but like what it provides, and I’m carefull.
Live, always a TC Polytune, on all my boards.
