I guess I'm kinda in between Obeyer and Folkie too.

A great take on all the lengths. I started as a low rider, now a middleman. Straplength can be seen as a pretty sacrosanct thing but when I started knowing more about what was going on and needed to reach and maybe see more, switched to middle. and yes. As a low rider, I was a metal player. And yes, I am a very smiley player and now more blues based.

I have to make a strap change soon ... belly is getting bigger with age so it's either gonna be Low Hanger or High Tower. No room in the middle unless I want to play bass like a slide guitar on my stomach. ;)

A few years ago I got invited to a small theater to see the Kingston Trio. I can't remember the guy's name, but their bass player was a bad bad man on bass guitar. And I believe he was a "middle man".

I'm a middle guy. But I know folk, country, rock, Ramones, some jazz, and I was an obeyer to my bass teacher!
Although I don't play like this, I always liked Dee Dee's style....

This is exactly what I was alluding to in my post about where I used to have my bass. While Dee Dee looks awesome, I realized I was not as cool as I thought and when I started playing more intricate basslines other than the punk 3-chord songs, I couldn't do it with that length

Used to be a knuckle dragger, got tendinitis so I brought it up to the obeyer and that really messed up my elbows (I have super long arms and I'm tall) so now it's somewhere between the low-rider and the middle man though I find myself lowering it ever so slightly every couple weeks. That's with a jazz bass though (I have huge hands too). With a pbass neck it's middleman all the way.

I had always thought Wojtec was wearing his a bit high until I tried it myself and experienced how much easier dead accurate slapping is that way.

And I used to call one of my good bass buddies, who is a fully committed "low slinger", a poser but he always got the chicks so it really seemed to work for him.

Awesome bass there! Very Rickenbackeresqe horns on it, it's like a boutique Rick.
