What's coming and going XVIII: (We Don't Need) Rehab

Still waiting on my EAE Prismatic Wall from Chicago Music Exchange. Tried to chat with someone at CME and was told to email instead because of chat volume. Did so, and no one responded. This will be my last order with them. I'll buy direct from EAE if they make something else I'm interested in. They actually communicate with their customers.

Here, not sure if i posted it yet. Really interesting and the compressor is something I didn't think I'd be really into, but i am. Found out they are doing a smaller foot print one, so probably gonna move this to get one of those.

I'm reasonably certain (but happy to be corrected) that the smaller pedal doesn't have the transformer, if that's important to you. There are reports from some that the transformer distorts when used with very high-output basses, so if that applies to you, it may be an advantage.

Thanks for the clarification! Yeah it does distortion quite a bit, kinda cool in some regards when it does. Like a console overloading kinda, but yeah I would typically try to avoid it. Good to know the smaller one doesn't have it, really appreciate the insight!

The smaller one does have the transformer

And there is a transformer-less version

Thanks for the correction, and sorry for mis-steering you, @Novarocker :(.

Coming:
  • Parts for my VFE Klein bottle V2. No idea why I've pushed this build out so long, but I caught myself thinking "I really need a lpf/hfp, and a mixer/router like the Boss LS-2, and oh yeah, it would be cool to get a multiband distortion setup somehow". Then I remembered the answer is already in my closet. So yeah, finally building it soon!
(Maybe) Coming
  • Poly Effects Ample. Really love the sound of this thing in the demos I've been hearing, and the interface and compactness is really nice. I'm totally sold on the stereo amp rig, it's a perfect solution for biamping and for dual bass/guitar usage.
Going
  • Bardic Audio Devices Dungeon Master. Love this pedal but selling to fund the Ample.
  • Fender JMJ mustang. Great bass, one of the best feeling necks I've ever played I think... I'm just not that much of a short scale guy in the end.
  • Landscape FM Ferrous. Interesting little device but I'm not using it that much. I dunno, maybe I'll hang onto it for a while longer.
  • Fates (Monome norns DIY clone). Have two, only need one.
Gonna be posting stuff in classifieds soon so be on the lookout if you're interested!

Just ordered a One Control Red Crimson Bass Preamp:
View attachment 7063246

Should have it in the mail about middle of this coming week.

It's all analog and is supposed to emulate a 60's/70's kind of tube amp with a 15" speaker, allegedly Ampeg B-15 like, and I hope for it to be able to replace my current NUX Melvin Lee Davis Bass Preamp, which is a digital amp emulator with IR cab sim, in my ampless setup.
So I tried it out, but was kind of disappointed that it didn't work for me.
It did as advertised, but I thought it just didn't exactly fit for my use, like making everything sound a bit too rounded, and loosing clarity.
And I planed on sending it back, to get my money back.

However, for whatever reason, I let it stay, and just a couple of days ago filed it for a return with Thomann, and received a document so I could post it back without shipping costs yesterday.
I planed on sending it back tomorrow.

But then I decided to give it one last chance.
Sounded much better than I remembered from the first time I tried it, but still made everything a bit too rounded for my taste.

That is until I decided to try it out with my bridge J pickup, rather than my go to middle reverse orientation P pickup, and that actually sounded pretty great.
Then I decided to see what it would do to my 5 string bass, which have just one J bridge pickup, wired directly to the output jack socket, and damn, it sounds absolutely gorgeous!

Definitely not sending this back!

That bass and this pedal is just the perfect pair!

I tried to buy from him also but he was only taking crypto wallet payment and then out of stock.
I don't have a crypto wallet and I don't know if I want one. I would only use it to buy an effect from Hiero... It's a shame that the payment can't be made in another way, maybe it will change in the foreseeable future, because the new version of B.E.A.D. (v4) and PHATOUM (v3) look amazing.

Any manufacturer that requires the use of crypto can pound sand.

COMING:
  • Poly Effects Ample.
GOING:
  • Landscape FM Ferrous. Interesting tool, just not using it that much. So, onward it goes!
  • Fates (Monome Norns clone)
GONE:
  • Bardic Audio Devices Dungeon Master. Will miss this one as it is a really unique pedal, but something had to go to make room for the Ample.
