What's wrong with my amp?

Now, that really made me chortle! You're right! The smaller the rig, the louder and more slammin it'll be.

Sounds like you might be crossing the line from the "playing by myself, learning stuff; this is fun" to "I have some chops; I can , and want to, play in a band, this is really fun!" It's a great time, but it also means looking at up grading, and spending some money, on better equipment that will allow you to continue your journey as a bass player. I would've blown that thing trying to match a drum set with it, too..i'm afraid you need a little more for anything other than a quiet night of practice, or maybe a little acoustic set.

I don't really know anything about electric stuff, like watts and ohms and all that, but would there actually be a big difference between 35w and 38w?

just try to remove the speaker and you will see whats wrong, i had that problem with my marshall 410 silver edition cabinet, one guy cranked my sunn 300T and he blow one speaker, lucky he, i was not there. the driver spider came off. easy fix, but i didn`t know then... so my friend bought the new one.

You probably blew the speaker by diming the gain and the lows. Lows are harder on speakers and take more power.

Additionally, that combo is probably too small to be expected to keep up with drums.

Do you have an active bass? If so, swap out the batteries. You can get the same symptoms from weak batteries in your pre-amp...

And if you play over bdi 21 with active bass, that might be a problem.

I agree with Accoustic356, I had that same thing happen using an active bass. It farted out when I hit an open E or open A... Seems that it was a weak battery in the bass. Not the amp or speaker as it would seem.

I don't have an active bass, both mine are passive. But not a silly question, thanks for the tip! Now I'll know if I ever get an active!

Thanks everyone I appreciate it! I think, like lots of you said, that I blew the speaker by diming the gain and lows. I'll open it up today and take a look, and let y'all know how everything turns out!
