When an artist scoring a hit with a cover goes haywire, the story of "Hot-hot-hot"

i like the cat and his music and all of his efforts. the only thing that makes him a "weirdo," in my mind, is: posturing that you don't like certain parts of your own success* = trying too hard to be 'too cool'.

Ahhh yes, David Joe Has-Been! Sorry, but I knew him before he became Buster and that was a running gag he called himself. He of course got tired of Hot Hot Hot, but that made him VERY relevant when released and he loved it then.

As for ‘Buttercup’, I have to disagree. On that vid, it’s just too fast. It’s a good rendition, but would have been better had they laid into the groove harder instead of speeding it up.

One of the most egregious hits of this sort was one the singer absolutely despised when he was told to do a cover of it and that after recording it he'd never have to sing it again.
Billy Ray Cyrus is pretty well known as the singer of Achy Breaky Heart and like many others before and since, realizes people want to hear it and it's why he became rich and famous.
Hah, you'll never have to sing it again!

On the flip side, there's people who can't stand the version of All Along the Watchtower that came out before Hendrix recorded the iconic version that many mistake for being the original.

Funny you should mention "Achy breaky heart" because...

Yup, that song is a cover too...
