Who are you?

Hello, I am new in the forum, I am a Luthier in Argentina, I work at the Beaudoux Guitars factory, by Fanta Luthier who made instruments for great artists and has a career of more than 50 years, today I am investigating to do a Bass VI, should open a new talk in the forum? There are some things that we still do not have good in Clara, especially measures of microphones and bridges, there is little information honestly, I apologize for my basic English, greetings and thank you very much.

Welcome and yes, do start a thread here - there's a lot of talent and knowledge in the Luthiers Corner. This thread is made up of all levels of experience/skill and everyone is very supportive of each other.

Hello @DaveRoss and welcome. I just took a quick look at your company's website. I think it must be special to work for an experienced boss like that, no?

And yes, start a new thread in the Luthier's Corner for your BassVI.

hello, if it is a unique experience, I learn new things every day and even making instruments like the bassvi I will surely learn a lot more.
my boss has been making guitars and basses for very important artists like robert fripp so i'm very grateful and he likes to do research like the one i'm doing now so we get along well in that sense, thank you all!

Welcome to tb Francy, Maciej and Matias! I think everyone would like to see pics/examples of your work - especially basses, and learn more about you. The Luthiers Corner here on tb is a good place to hang with other bass builders there, some who also mage guitars.

Heya,

I'm Sasha, located in Montreal, Qc Canada. Level 29 on earth, I've been repairing/modifying guitars & basses since i was 13-14, been building from scratch for the last 9 years. I've done a few home renovation/construction jobs here & there. Spent 2.5 years working under mentorship (& later employed by) a local luthier who took me under his wing. & it was great while it lasted, sadly we were hit with online fraud & the business funds were depleated (as was half his personal bank account), & after 13 years for him, he called it quits, shut the doors & Him, a co-worker & I split the tools, & many guitar builds that were there. It was a sad way to end things, life goes on.

No significant other, no kids, just figuring out life right now.

I've mainly built for myself, though have had a few commision builds for friends over the 9 years - currently in works of properly "opening" my business & making a proper name with help from a friend & business advisor, she's great help at managing thoughts & "anxiety" i may have in some of this.

I currently work for the city of Montreal, landscaping parks & such by cutting grass, picking up trash, etc. Which helps fund my on going projects & acquiring tools for my luthier work. As of today, i've built 13 Basses, & 8 electric guitars. Most of which i've improved upon as time passed, or knew how to do better on the follow ups. Currently in works of building a prototype for possible line of guitars. TBD.

Edit: for the curious, i've had this thread going for a long time showcasing various builds & such. Bass builds: My own & for clients (friends).

I think I'm just now realizing this thread existed.

Anyway, hello. My name is Trevor Joiner. Woodworking is literally in my name and it's been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember, starting with helping my dad build furniture in the garage when I was just 5 or 6 years old.

I got my first bass - a Korean-made P bass clone - from my mom on my 16th birthday. I still have it and play it regularly although it's been heavily upgraded. In 2004, I joined TalkBass when I decided to start my first bass build as a summer project after graduating high school. Almost 20 years later, I have about a dozen builds, countless repairs for friends and family, and a handful of restorations. While I do love building and have often aspired to make a full-time business out of it, my busy life - day job, freelance work (see below), marriage (no kids, thank goodness), home ownership, etc. - means lutherie has always been just a hobby.

And I'm perfectly OK with that.

Like my dad before me, I also enjoy building furniture and have made things like jewelry boxes, tables, and other wood pieces mainly for myself, friends, and family often as gifts or out of necessity. After all, why buy when I can build and have something that will last generations and give me the satisfaction of knowing I made it?

When I'm not covering myself in sawdust, I'm a freelance graphic designer and printer, primarily commercial design/printing. My main passion, however, is van life and being an avid traveler. Presently, I'm living in a house I own with my wife but in the past I've gone months living out of my converted Honda Element. Call me crazy but I actually prefer the simplicity. In the not too distant future, my wife and I plan on building a tiny home from a shipping container or flatbed trailer or become full time RVers.

Anyway, I'm an open book but generally not one to just ramble on about my life - I often say "I'll tell you whatever you want to know but you have to ask the questions" - so if anyone wants to ask me something, feel free! My inbox is open.

EDIT: Photo uploaded. Extra credit points to anyone who can tell me where my wife and I are at in the photo.

It's my birthday today, I'm 67! As a family tradition, I took a portrait of me to send to my sisters. I thought you guys would enjoy seeing me in my current state:

Me at 67. Less weight, more muscle, much more hair. I'm holding my beloved Series IV AUB-2 #060, and standing proudly in front of my two pin routers. I've decided to identify as a retired bass player from a '70's rock band. My pronouns are Hey Man and Dude.

I couldn't possibly love this more.

Hi guys, my name is Martin. 40 years ago i have drawn my first design of a headless bass, but how life plays i was young and had to earn money with different things than building guitars. At the age of 58, I decided to put my designs into practice, also because no one had done anything similar over the years. So here are some photos of my basses i built in the last years. Hope you like it although it's a quite different approach to "headless". My designs are not based on appearance but on function and ergonomics, although aesthetics also play a role of course, none of my basses weighs more than 3 kg.
